This weeks Parson's Advocate:
"big projects for the future include putting in a tubing area...expanding chairlift capacity by putting in a new chairlift that would run to the terrain park on mid-station and would allow skiers to access mid-station trails...get lighting for the ski slope Twister..."
Glad to see Doc is aiming high. What's in his too big to dream category? New carpet in the lodge?
Don't forget about the stash style terrain park features we are going to put in this fall too.
A couple of questions/thoughts:
The short chair to mid station would allow the current orange chair to skip the mid station unloading and thus allow more topside riders, possibly reducing line wait during times of crowding...and perhaps allow this chair to run at a higher speed...especially if a "magic carpet" loading platform added at the base!!?? All in all, an improvement.
Why is lighting needed on Twister? probably to appease the home owners in this section?
Is a tubing area really necessary...there is one at CV already...albeit a somewhat dangerous one with the riders frequently smashing into the restraining net at the bottom.
And of course, the big question...WHEN do these modest improvements occur???
The Colonel
Tucker,
In what context were the Timberline improvements mentioned?
Any other news of interest in the article?
The Colonel
The Parsons Advocate has been doing a series on the top 10 employers in Tucker County. Timberline is the top empployer in Tucker County, atlhouh only 8 employees receive benefits(the article mentioned that number). The article didn't mention the average pay for employees, but I would be willing to bet that there wouldn't be more than about 2 dozen employees making over $10 dollars an hour there. They interviewed the general manager of t-line and he mentioned these impovements.
There has also been a lot of talk around about the impovements at Canaan and they have started the work over there. IMO I imagine these improvemnets planned at Timberline are an attempt to combat the massive improvements at Canaan....I doubt the improvements at timberline will happen any time soon. The best improvement that could happen at T-line and for the entire valley is for Doc to sell the place.
They have been doing some things around t-line this summer that weren't mentioned in the article. They are finally replacing a large section of roof that has been leaking for the last 15 years...although it appears they are doing the work in-house. There are lots of rumors of glading and new tree runs being cut. JR is hard at work as usual trying to get the bike program going. There are a couple locals cutting some awesome new downhill bike trails on their own time. And in Timberline fashion they have to make atleast one boneheaded move....new plastic chairs on the bunny lift. Plastic is the worst material you could use on a chairlift-cold as [censored] and always frozen ice...but it is hard to know that unless you actually ride the chairs and know the product.
Tucker,
How can Timberline possibly have more employees than Canaan Valley Resort?
The Colonel
Well, I will give this to Doc: he can sometimes do the impossible. I didn't think it was possible to make the bunny lift more cr*ppy than it is, but yep, plastic chairs would do the trick.
Col., perhaps they count them as state. It seems CV and Blackwater Falls state parks would be the largest.
Kingsford??
Is the power plant in Tucker Co.?
Kingsford is in Parsons.... for all of you who, like I, want to do burnt offerings on a charcoal grill.
Where in h are they going to put a snow tubing park?

T-Line's version of progress could mean removing the old lift to the top and replacing it with a mid-station lift.
Colonel:
Those magic carpet boarding aides are IMHO more difficult to master than a fixed grip lift. I just don't that working out well in The Valley, or in the rest of the Mid-A, for that matter. Too many lower level skiers. Plus they must be expensive and are another item to maintain.
Though I won't use a tubing area, I'm excited to see the revenue from one go back into the mountain. 7 springs makes more $$$ from theirs than they do lift tickets.
Don't you mean right into the suitcase, then into the trunk of the old Mercedez, and finally up the Interstate to Philadelphia? (:^O)>>>

Ding, Ding, Ding...and we have a winner...I wonder what the tax rate is for cash in a suitcase;)
Where in h are they going to put a snow tubing park?
...ski school teaching area of course...
Why not up at the new mid-mountain village on the Twister side? That must be coming soon, since they pitched it in selling the Winterhaven lots...surely they wouldn't promise something they couldn't deliver...
...ski school teaching area of course...
Nah, ski school party deck.
Speaking of ski skool, does No Child Left Behind apply to T-Line?

You're kidding?
Hey Tucker, I was in the valley on Saturday evening and stopped by the pub to see who was there and to get a IPA on draft but the keg cooler was "down." Hope they get that fixed soon. I had to resort to having one of Bobby's beers. Noticed it rained saturday night AND that the roof was torn off on half of the lodge w/o tarps to cover it. Who was the idiot making that decision? (I think I know)
Talk also of some more snow sticks on Sally. That's good news, but plastic chairs on the double? Wonder how many kids will slide off on cold days. The queen is bad enough for slick but to do it on your novice lift too?
I took a lesson from Jimmie once... I'm one of the 19% that never returned from the lesson, lol!

Uh huh. Hey Charlie...a sure fire way to insure that you remain in that 19% is to follow Jimmy in the trees.
