This little shot has been advertised in the models for a good bit of time..Problem for us Lift junkies is that with another quick shot around the 17th there doesn't seem to be another one till right around T-giving...A day late a dollar short? cry

Still Short T-giving but going long the rest of the winter (I have become a Stock/Gambling Addict)...good things to come by or soon into December based on The world having a cold Oct with cooling signs in the upper Atmosphere as well as in the oceans. We have an above Ave Snow extent in the northern hemisphere with canada lagging a little but filling in real fast... Like I said before..its building & will soon find a way down...
If not I'll send you all at WG a Postcard from Florida!...Thanks for the Snow report Chaga!

PS..A big Shout out & thanks to all the Vets out there!!!!

Its still up there..cold Ain't the word!..Ck it out..

Record cold temperatures continue over the interior...

The first cold weather outbreak of the season continues to bring
record temperatures to the interior of Alaska. Unusually frigid
temperatures for mid-November have been observed across much of
the region. Temperatures colder than 40 below zero were reported
in valleys in the central and northeastern interior again
Saturday.

Several record low temperatures were broken Saturday morning in
the Fairbanks area. This includes radio station kjnp in North Pole
which had 42 below and broke the record set in 1974. Other new
records Saturday morning include Eielson Air Force Base at 40
below ... the Fairbanks Airport with 36 below and uaf West Ridge at
30 below.

Record or near record low temperatures are possible again Sunday
morning. The record low for November 20th at the Fairbanks Airport
is 36 below... 37 below at Eielson Air Force Base... 40 below at kjnp
in North Pole... and 35 below at uaf West Ridge.

Skies will be clear over much of the interior Saturday night and
Sunday. Clouds will be increasing Sunday night and Monday... with
mostly cloudy skies expected over much of the interior by Monday
morning. The increase of clouds will cause temperatures to be
somewhat higher... but still much below normal for this time of
year. The much below temperatures will persist through the
upcoming week.

The average temperature in Fairbanks this week is around 8 above
with an average low of 9 below zero.

The following is a summary of official low temperatures as of 11
am akst Saturday unless otherwise noted.

In the Fairbanks area:
North Pole (kjnp)... ... ... ... ... ... ... .42 below (new record)
Eielson Air Force Base... ... ... ... ... ..40 below (new record)

Seems so far away....

... Another day of record low temperatures at Fairbanks...

The HIGH yesterday (saturday) of 23 below at the
Fairbanks International Airport broke the record for the lowest
high temperature ever observed on November 19th. The old record
of 22 below was set in 1911.

The low temperature of 36 below also broke the old record low of
33 below set in 1969.

...Especially when you have been surf fishing on Masonboro Island,NC in nothing but a swimming suit...Betterhalfski caught a 26 inch redfish...I caught a 17.5 inch red that was 1/2 inch to short to keep(Species caught...Black Drum,Redfish,Jack crevalle, flounder, bluefish,Skate,Speckled trout,Whiting,puffers....a lot were on the smaller side & threw Back)...The endless Summer

word is, he will still be doing what he does and providing the data via other outlets. just wish the lake-effect machine gets up and running consistently! although if you are a WG tele skier you are benefiting greatly from the warmer temps as the acreage of glade skiing has been increasing exponentially. if you can't ski, making more places to ski pacifies the jones smile

"If you take the latest long range Forecasts there seems to be a trend to bringing the sustained cold/snow in even later than the late nov thinking That I + Everything I saw & read said.
I Look at all the temps around the world & especially around Alaska/Canada & I am seeing a very good cold source building which I still think will eventually find a way down to us by the end of the month....The conservative thinking would be an opening fri the 9th of dec & maybe the next weekend for real skiing" (snowshoe weather thread..mid month)

Well Chaga it looks like all of you alls good work will finally pay off starting tue nite..Winter is on!---Bout time & looks to stay awhile this time--

I couldn't find that Fred qoute on the facebook page? I would bet that it will be a Sat 10th opening w/ bunny and Mid Station MAYBE for the weekend and then close down for the following week....only VERY limited opening on the 10th weekend for bunk house boy scouts. I just don't see any snow makin' weather in the forecast.

That is the forecast I was looking at to....nothing to get excited about for snowmaking conditions for sure. IF those numbers hold true and snowmax is used they could do a little something, but that is not good snowmaking weather as far as temps go, for t-line atleast. I don't know what the humidity will be, but humidity is a considerable factor as well, especially at those marginal temps. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even make snow this week...but I could just as easily be wrong.

Thanks David, that's interesting and kinda of weird that timberline has a couple facebook pages....maybe I should make my own T-line facebook site, I wonder what that site would look like?

Looks like Winter begins on ~Dec 6th or so. I agree with Tucker, given the forecast, I kinda doubt T-Line will have a trail open from the top on Dec 10/11th weekend. But they may surprise me...

The B-Day celebration @ Wisp or Seven Springs may be the best bet for snow/open terrain the 10/11th.

Yesterday I had 71 on my backyard thermometer. Last night I watched a football game in New Orleans and the announcer said it was in the 40s. Crazy!

PS I don't know where you guys get your snow predictions. I have found NOAA/NWS to be most accurate,

Once we get within the 7 day NWS range I switch over to the NWS sites..Your site you posted Denis is with the Pittsburg Ofc which puts Canaan on the Very southern point of their F-cast area. I also Ck out the Charleston ofc which puts canaan on their northern range & then I also ck out the Dc ofc..& that would put Canaan on the western fring for them..Triangulate!....just like the radar.
7 to 15 days out I Ck out the longer range European & the american DGEX & Gfs models + all my favorite pros on the blog sites.

I don't know about TL but a place like SS will take advantage of the conditions coming up starting off with the up to 4 inches of natural tonite into wed + Early next week should be sweet.
There could be a nite where it is 34 at top but 25 at the bottom & they will be blowing there. That is one of the reasons that I felt MPC with a 2000' vert in WV with all the inversions we get would be a perfect place for an agressive snowmaking team. It can be very cold on the bottom half of that mountain even when the warmer winds are blowing up top.

Its been snowing down here in the Carolina Mtns & I just talked to my uncle bill with a house up at 1800' in Mountain city, TN & he says he is pulling his Sled out!
...off to Ck out the latest model run

PS..for 3 days now the models have told me that it would be cold enough for snow at or around 7 pm tonite in the Northern WV Mtns but all the F-casts say that the turnover to Snow will be about 10 pm tonite...It is 33 degrees up at Snowshoe as of 545 pm..Jus sayin..

I am no expert in this but here's what I've found.

I used to enter Davis in the location box at the top of the page and got this.

Davis at 3201 ft,
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php...Field2=-79.4665

I didn't want a valley biased forecast so I started clicking around on the little map and discovered this.

Weiss Knob at 3624 ft,
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php...nit=0&lg=en

Just now I clicked some more and found this for
Mt. Porte Crayon at 4572 ft.
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php...p;FcstType=text

Notice that the details of the forecast are slightly different for all 3 links and that account for colder and snowier at higher elevation seems to have been made. The lattitude and longitude given are also different. Under the current conditions bar the same airport data appear on all 3 pages; that part doesn't change.

So, somebody in some office is putting a finer grid on their forecast to tailor it for the specific lattitude and longitude that I clicked on. That's as much as I've been able to figure out from the pages themselves.

Think I'll add the Mt. Porte Crayon location to my bookmarks.
