MID-ATLANTIC Get ToGether, T-LINE, WV FEB 10-13, 2012
Before calendars fill I thought I'd post about the gathering we are planning at Timberline, WV on Feb 10-13, 2012. You are invited to join us at one of the best mountains for advanced skiers in the region with an honest 1000 feet of vertical. T-line is located in Canaan Valley, also the site of Canaan Valley Alpine Ski Area and Whitegrass Nordic Touring Center (off piste skiing).

There are numerous sliding and lodging choices for those who want to do their own thing and join us on the hill for a day or two. We'll have several T-line regulars showing us the best trails, bumps, glades and snow.

Timberline website: http://timberlineresort.com/winter/

We are planning to rent a house that weekend and already have a core of participants, but room for more especially at this early stage. If you have questions or are interesting in joining us please post here or send me a PM over the next few weeks. Sometime in early Dec we'll make a house reservation. The cost will likely be about $125 for each person for three nights slopeside lodging including potluck meals.

The past few years we have gathered at Blue Knob, PA with typically about 2-3 dozen participants including a friendly mix of day trippers and overnighters of varied abilities. There is the likelihood of extending the skiing to include Friday and/or Monday if desired. The age spread in the past ranged from kids to 70+, originating from NC, VA, MD, WV, PA, DC, etc. More details to follow as the date approaches.

Regards, JimK

I could probably drive up for the day on Saturday. Possibly stay on Friday evening. I'm heading to VT on that Sunday. I'd love to try to meet up for a while though.

I'll be there but don't need housing. Got my own little place. It'll be great meeting everyone, although I already know quite a few folks who do these things.

Trivia question.

What is wide enough to handle five skiers side-by-side, is tippable when operated properly, and can be utilized by one of the Chase bros to put the rest of us to shame?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............

This will be the official event but we still can meet at Blue Knob. I'll be headed there as soon as trail count improves. I'll post a TR. Maybe we can get an impromptu GTG after a good snowfall.

Yes, but likely only for this year. The Mid Atlantic Epic/DC Ski GTG conflicted with the Epic Tahoe Gathering this year. Or vice versa, depending upon your point of view. grin

Time for a roll call?

The 10 day forecast shows sporadic shower activity near term and cooler temps long term. No big snowstorms forecasted, but no huge meltdowns either. Timberline has a decent amount of terrain open. I hate to say it, but we're into Feb and this might be one of those winters you don't postpone ski plans to wait for primo conditions.

Just a reminder to look us up if you are at Timberline this coming weekend. Weather is trending cold and snowy.
Also, we may have an open bed/futon for one person in our group house. Three nights slopeside with all meals for $155, 2/10-13, let me know if interested.

We have a good group of DCSkiers heading up to Timberline this weekend. Our house is full, but if you are considering skiing there on Fri, Sat, Sun or Monday 2/10-13 and wish to join us for some runs I've posted meet-up info below. We are mostly skiing at Timberline, but will also venture over to Canaan Valley ski area on Sunday for a while. Forecast calls for chance of light snow the whole weekend with highs in the 20s and lows in the teens. They got about 4" new snow yesterday.

Friday meet-up at Timberline: 1pm on-the-snow in front of the deck of the base lodge beside the outdoor ticket windows. Look for people with ribbons (Red?) tied around their ski poles.

Saturday meet same place at 10am

Sunday same place at 10am

Monday - TBD

These guys will be there:

I'd meet up with ya'll but our skiskool line up time is 10 AM in a different location. That will affect Jimmy too unless we play hookie whistle I've skied with most of you in past years so I can hook up later in the day if we don't have lessons. Saturday may prove to be busy for us, so Sunday may be the best bet.

I'm pretty sure Vince will. I might also make a few after-dinner night runs since I'll probably get a 1230pm ticket and they are only a few bucks more to extend from 430 to 9pm.

See you up there David.

The snow is here, wish you were falling.

So far this morning, there has been about 11-12 of us skiing together and having a good time. It's still not too late. If you see someone with a red ribbon on a pole., and they are not a boy scout, it could be us.

It is still spitting snow at 9:30pm, anticipate another 2-4 through tomorrow, probably had about 10 inches so far. Turing cold here at the DCSki get together at Timberline, temps in single digits, wind beginning to howl.
Jim K with have pictures when we return on Monday. You can still come, about 18 or so here from DCSki.
Think snow,

Although I didn't get to make many turns with the group, I think it was by far the best of the best so far for conditions. The poaching was in a word, awesome. Got into Pearly yesterday and I'm still smiling. Those glades haven't been better. If it wasn't so damn cold I could have and would have stayed there until closing. I think Jimmy did.
