Summit County Colorado Ski Conditions
January 11, 2012
I would call conditions just slightly better than average - a lot worse than last year, which was the snowiest year in history, and a lot better than two years ago which was a snow disaster from start to finish.
I got in three days in Keystone and it was a bit more crowded than normal, but because I know the hill so well, I pretty much avoided the teaming hordes. Did Breck today because I knew that I would only ski 4-5 runs and quit when it got crowded. There was no point in driving to Keystone for 5 runs, when I cold roll out of bed, put on the boots, jump on the shuttle bus, and do my 5 runs at Breckenridge( I actually ended up doing 8 runs).
It's going to hit 45 today, and weather channel shows a continuation of above average temps and no snow for the next week. So snow conditions are not likely to improve any time soon.
4 days down -- 65-70 to go.
Hope that everybody has a Happy Thanksgiving!
Well the update 2.5 weeks later is that it's still not snowing.
I've got 13 days of skiing in and have had one 3" powder day. If it wasn't for snow making, nothing in the county would be open.
The forecast for the next 10 days: more of the same - no snow. This is starting to feel like the snowless winter of 2 years ago.
On the other hand, I understand that New Mexico (Taos, Red River, Angel Fire, Sipapu, et all) is having it's best open ever.
Bob, I'm going out there Jan 5. Please try to have some snow by then. Thanks.
I'll do my best to have snow by Jan 5.
Actually I'm leaving the county on Dec 21, and am returning on January 9. I never spend the holidays in ski country. Being on the slopes with thousands upon thousands of visitors is not my idea of fun.
Well I'm heading back to Summit County Monday morning and conditions still suck. The county has not had one -- NOT ONE --
significant snow (6 inches+) since the season started - and none is forecast in the next 10 days.
It appears that the entire country with the exception of New Mexico and Arizona is going snow free.
Keystone is 18% open 548 acres -- down from over 900 last weekend. One trail is open in the Outback. Virtually no expert terrain is open.
Sans snowmaking - nothing would be open.
I'll be renewing my Taos value card from last season before I head out of town. If things don't improve, I'll be seeing New Mexico in my windshield before too much longer.
Lack of snow keeping people away from the mtns.
"DENVER (AP) - With snowfall lagging, fewer skiers and snowboarders are hitting the slopes at Vail Resorts properties so far this season.
The company said Friday that skier visits are down 15.3 percent compared with the ski season through New Year's weekend last year. Lift ticket revenue is up slightly but the company says people who bought season passes aren't using them as much as last season.
The lack of snow has prevented the back bowls at Vail from opening as of Jan. 6 for the first time in 30 years. Lake Tahoe didn't get any snow at all during December and the company says that hasn't happened since the late 1800s."

which is fine by me. no lines to speak of at Copper today. snow was ok, I'll take it.
I'm heading to Copper in March... I'm beginning to think my airline tickets and lodging was a waste of money this year. I'm tebowing for snow -:)

Zing!!!
Loveland did not suck on the 7th...
maahhh! I skied Loveland Pass on the 5th...they did not have any of those freshies yet! Booo!
Just curious, why are you on DCSki if you live in Bozeman? We are happy to have you of course.
I have skied Bridger, one of the great hills in the west.
Denis girlboarder247 was a top notch snowboard instructor at Timberline. Hope she comes back when she finishes her Higher Education.
girlboarder247 said 'ski' and jimmy said 'snowboard', so I infer she is progressing out there in montucky

it's insinuated that she's still one of us. You go Danielle!
haha They pretty much nailed it...Living in Bozeman, but still hafta creep on DCSki to see what's going on at Timberline because I miss it a lot! And I was actually snowboarding, but to me ski just means sliding on snow! Actually Timberline took me to Loveland, I was there to visit an old friend I met at The Slime!
oh and I was getting my hopes up. meanwhile, loveland was indeed great that day. how you liking bozeman?
Bozeman is sweet! It's a great place for sure. 20 mins from Bridger is a plus, now if we could just get some snow! 1" yesterday, but I mean real snow! I am "learning to tele" although I've been saying that for at least 3 seasons now haha. Learned to fly fish this fall and that was fun too.
