WISP starting blowing snow last night. Hopefully, they can get a base down before the 50-60F temps and rain set in. The locals were also talking about a storm next Tuesday/Wednesday.

At 745 am this morning (Dec. 2), Wisp reported a temperature of 24 degrees, but there was no snowmaking showing up on the webcams. Seems like just a dusting on some slopes so far, exc. Belly Flop.

Probably a good idea to blow out the mice for now, get through the expected weekend warmup, and then blast away when the cold air returns around the 7th. Looks like a nice run of cold overnight conditions for 3+ days next week.

What are the chances that Wisp will open for its b-day celebration on the 11th and 12th with at least two top-to-bottom runs (e.g., Wisp, Squirrel Cage) open?

Need help from Mother Nature, but long range forecast out there calls for a few cold nights for snowmaking, then two rainy days, then a few more cold nights before the 11th. If it's more chilly then rainy there is a chance they could get a decent sampling of their terrain open for B-day weekend (Dec 10-12) including some top to bottom runs??? For those who don't know: lift tickets on Dec 11 and 12 are only $10 per day.
As you know Wisp can work wonders with just a few cold nights:

FYI, don't forget that in the past Wisp has definitely proven that their high tech snowmaking system can take them from 0% to 100% VERY fast.

If they get the right opportunity from mother nature they will definitely have a decent amount open fairly quickly....

...that's assuming that the whole bankruptcy thing hasn't effected their upcoming season.

Wisp is calling for 8-10 inches of lake effect snow today and tomorrow, plus as much as they can make this week. Should have all slopes open by next weekend. Finally.

Yup, I called today to give a second payment on a place we are renting next month and it was confirmed they picked up 7-8 last night, another 3-5 on the way and the snowguns are going flat out.

If you haven't seen this already, it's a web cam to see conditions from across the lake at Wisp. Conditions were blizzard-like until a few moments ago. http://www.deepcreekvacations.com/deepcreekcam.html

At Wisp this weekend, conditions are decent. Slow in spots that get exposed to the sun, but otherwise enough trails open to keep it fun. About 75% of trails open this weekend. Crowds good, but not overwhelming, no lift lines to speak of. North Camp trails are mostly open, and in the best shape. Front face is good, East Ridge just opened this weekend. Main Street is in great shape, as is Down Under.

Hey those of you who are skiing Wisp a lot, and those of you who make it there this weekend, will you report back here and let us know how it was?

We went to Wisp on Sunday. The slopes were crowded but the lift lines moved along. I'm certainly no expert on slope conditions but during the first couple hours the slopes seemed to have a nice layer of packed / groomed snow on them.

With all the ski traffic, things got real icy into the afternoon.

In all, it was a fun time. We used the Winter White Sale tickets we got for $37 each back in November.

Here's a couple pics I took:

Looking out at Happy Camper.

Thanks for the pics and trip report, BD! As usual, Wisp has really been cranking out the snow. Glad to see such good coverage.

They were blowing a lot of snow on several unopened trails. Lots of snow whales ready to be groomed.

They had 21 trails open on Sunday and I see they expanded that to 25 today.

Hey, Wisp skiers, thanks for the info.

I also started a separate thread about general feedback on Wisp, called "How does Wisp compare to other resorts?" if you have any inclination to chime in.

Blue Don, was there Saturday, and yes, there looked to be plenty of whales forming on Eye Opener, Odin's Chute, Squirrel Cage and others. a few trails were showing a fair amount of "eastern hardpack" but all in all plenty of skiable terrain. just enough natural and blown man made to make Mainstreet quite nice under the chairs, as the rest of it was getting pounded by the snowmaking wands.

Hey, those of you who have been skiing Wisp mid-week, are they blasting the snowmakers all day? Want to know because it affects my decision to travel there on a weekday next week.

Just had a day of skiing at Whitetail where the snowblowers definitely impacted my enjoyment.

Wisp conditions Superbowl weekend were good, and they keep pumping out te snow. Overall conditions are better than most in the areas by the sounds of it. I just checked out their web cams and it looks like they made a bunch, and should continue all week.
