Over Saturday night, even the lower-elevation ski areas cranked up their snowmaking operations in earnest. At last!

OK, who has what open, or is going to open soon ... and what runs and lifts will be open?

Snowshoe (winner of the Resort Still Without Webcams Award) opened on Friday the 9th with runs in the Ballhooter vicinity and some greens at Silver Creek.

Hidden Valley has their bunny run open, and their website states that they have plans to open the Sunrise/Sunset lift today (Sunday).

Massanutten's last update (on 1298/2011 -- yes, that's what it says) reports an anticipated opening of Tuesday (!) December 13. Interesting.

What other areas and runs are likely to open this week and next weekend?

Wisp rescheduled their birthday celebration to next Sunday and Monday and I'm guessing will have 2 blacks, Squirrel Cage and the Face, a couple of greens and a couple of blues open. From their web cams, it looks like they started blowing snow on Mainstreet, but they don't list it as a trail they are doing snowmaking on.

I'll try to get to Wisp either Sunday or Monday; not sure which yet. Good news about their snowmaking, MephitBlue. Looks like Wisp is also trying to open North Camp (there's snowmaking on Big Dipper, Ace's), which usually opens before Mainstreet.

fyi HV had one slope and one trail open today under heavily populated conditions, with the bunny slope also too. Originally they only had one lift open but opened a second lift due to the crowd.

Looking at the giant piles of snow they are accumulating on some of the unopen slopes, I would be VERY surprised if they don't open at least the carpet quad and two-three more slopes for this weekend. Even with the weather turning rather crummy this week.

Massanutten's website confirmed this morning (Monday) that they will indeed open for skiing on Tuesday, December 13 9am-430pm.

I checked via phone and found out that the new chairlift #5 will be running to the top, presumably serving Showtime (where they've been making snow for several days).

7S is opening on Friday at 1PM and they have the nerve to charge $37 to slide on mush and rocks. That's insane.

According to their website Showtime will only be open to midstation today. I confirmed this via phone as well.

Yep, their plans changed between Monday afternoon and opening day today (Tuesday), but I had a nice afternoon at the 'Nut! Glad to ride that new chairlift, and they did a good job prepping the runs they had open.

Glad to hear it. Hopefully I'll be able to see the new chair for myself soon!

Blue Knob's website announces a planned opening of December 16 (Friday).

Canaan Valley says it'll let us begin skiing there on Thursday, December 22.
