To my knowledge there are no great skiing options in the southern central/slightly southwestern parts of Pennsylvania. (Other than Ski Roundtop and Whitetail, which I'm not counting as "great".)

But let me know if I'm wrong.

I ask because I have a good friend based in Westminster, Md. It's not terribly far from the area of Hanover, PA; it's about an hour from Harrisburg, PA.

I'm always brainstorming about ways to spend the night at this friend's house as a launching point for a good day trip of skiing (maybe within about two hours from her place). But when I look into it, the Pennsylvania options are all beyond that distance.

But someone please correct me if I'm wrong because I'd love to hear it.

Again, I'm looking into options within about reasonable day-trip driving distance from Westminster, Md. (which is in the northeastern part of that state).

Blue Knob 2:43 from your friends house and Blue Mountain 3:04. Blue Knob is old school and bad-[censored]. If you really want to ski the extra hour will not make a difference.

Guess you cannot say bad-a$$

Thanks for letting me know that. I definitely need to pursue this option/take advantage of my friend at least once this winter! :-)

Oh, actually: I just looked at a map and was reminded of why I never pursue this option.

A place like Blue Knob is almost equally far from Westminster, Md. as it is from the D.C. area. It's just a different route. There's no point in using my friend's place as a stopping-off area; in fact that adds a lot to my trip.

To my knowledge there's no good skiing around that area of MD/PA. They all seem much further to the north/west.
