I'm now in Boston area with my wife's family for a few days, then will head to Rochester NY, then Chicago. Sometime in this whirlwind tour I had to ski. Yesterday was it, the mighty Mt. Wachusett, 1000 vert, seven trails, 4 lifts. It was great; excellent snow conditions, occasional packs of young snowboarders interspersed with quiet spells and the fine company of my nephew. This was my 4th day but the first of riding lifts and it was good to be back. The knee with the torn meniscus held up with no problem. I rode the old Volkl CMHs with the new Dynafits. Had to get them dialed in sometime. I set them very light, about DIN 6 - 6.5. I pushed them hard and had no releases. In my younger 'hard man' days I used to insist on a 10. I think the present settings will do just fine, especially in the backcountry where there is no patroller with sled following one around. The bindings are mounted on an aluminum plate that is tapped with another set of holes for a Hammerhead tele binding. Thus I will be able to use those skis either alpine or tele after just a few minutes work with a screwdriver.

Wachusett is much like Whitetail in size, distance from nearest major city, and having done a lot with what nature gave them. It has a very active night racing league program.

Be careful on the Dfits and hard snow, just say no to any hard bumps.

Make sure the toes are clear of any ice/snow build up.

Better yet save'em for the BC, rag on the HH's for resorts.
