Great job w/ and posting the pics Vic. They really give a great indication of the conditions up here in Canaan Valley. It might seem like a weak start to winter w/ dissapointing real estate to ski on, but for non-locals, non-regular lowlanders, and newbies it is still a winter wonderland compared to the piedmont conditions. I was reminded by this yesterday when all the customers I talked to had big smiles on their faces and when I mentioned it had been a slow start to winter, when it was 20 F and 3 inches of fresh snow on the ground, they looked at me like I was crazy...admittedly probably am a little crazy
Keep the pics comin'!
Saturday should be another epic day: I'll try to post a few more pics from Timberline and White Grass.
I am still waiting for my Canaan Season Pass.
Do you pour over a ton of pics to catch the magic one or are you just that good?
Love the Timberline shot with the sun spilling out its rays from a large cloud..or the Criss crossing Jet Contrails..Perfect!
Of course those are just a couple of many ,many great shots that I have enjoyed.
We can only Dream what kind of pics you could produce if you were able to ski up & down a MPC ski area...Think of the enhancemewnt to your Playground if that were the case!
Keep on gettin it Vic & see ya on the Slopes!
I try NOT to miss a shot - but I have to admit: it kinda helps having a camera glued to my face nearly 10/24. Actually, what I think helps the most is "knowing" the sport. For instance, I probably couldn't take a great action shot of Golfing - I have never tried the sport.
SOMEBODY HELP:
What is MPC ?
SOMEBODY HELP:
What is MPC ?
MPC= Mount porte crayon....Just south of the valley is the Lower valley with the Larger mountains..The TRUE Valley of the Alpps.(Where I picked for my camp/Chalet)
In the valley & Rising up from 2400' to just shy of 4800'..sitting on The highest point on the highest Plateau east of the Rockies is where you have MPC..Home to the Almost "Almost heaven" ski area.
Speaking of the roaring plains..This plateau & Wilderness has 19 square miles of realestate above 4500'.. The Snowiest place south of Mount Mansfield,VT(Stowe)...
I'm sure there are many Lurkers that have wondered the same thing...Voila!
How close to the "Piste Off Ski Club" is the MPC or is it the same area?

Everyone's Dreaming in Canaan Valley.
It's snowing, so here's "Dream a little Dream"
Jan 2nd - a bit of powder at Timberline
Jan 3rd - Excellent Snow Quality
Kinda old school git up with the parka and scarf.
Are those Olin Mark IVs?
Pics and conditions look great.
That was a photo shoot for the owner of Timberline Resort.
I provided the yellow jacket, the poles, gloves, and modern skis.
Did NOT provide:
the style
the scarf
the glasses
These photos will be used to promote Timberline.
It's a little retro - fun, but a bit 80's.
Hey... maybe that was the intention of the owner?!?
Photos from Friday: WHERE was everyone???
Terrain Park (about to open)
Top of the main lift
Timberline had night skiing - but we blew a fuse (will be fixed later today)
2 Places that were just down-right scary!
White Grass was a blast:
No powder day
Not a lot of base
Not too crowded... but great fun!
(Laughing so hard, I had a hard time keeping the camera steady)
The Climb
The Descent
The Fast (very fast) Skating
Quality Family Time
I should have stopped skiing - but hey: did you see those conditions???
Alright, so here are a few photos from Saturday - at White Grass Touring Center.
Conditions: Excellent
Food: wow!
Customer Service: super friendly
Conditions: did I mention Excellent?!?
Hope you too had a really nice weekend. Here are a few photos
Monday at Timberline Resort:
Just fantastic conditions: Slopes were well groomed, snow was near-perfect.
Woods are well covered, but unfortunately, still a little thin once venturing more than 100 feet off slopes.
Here's a look... hope you enjoy:
Canaan Valley Resort did not suck today. Spent about 3.5 hours on a morning ticket there with my wife today. Everything that was open (not much) skied VERY nice. Not to mention, low crowds as always.
And has anyone tried the black bean soup at Whitegrass? Holy cow, that stuff is to die for.
These whales they built below Meadows 1 were HUGE. I'm not sure I would have the marbles to come clear over the top of one of those big boys.
Yeh David..I skied there the day before & had wished that they had used the whales to open up at least one of the meadows...What are they waiting for..Christmas?
great photos guys! keep em comin'!
I think that Canaan ski resort will wait to open up more terrain until after the rain goes through. Timberline is on the "same boat" - they have Winterset and Thunder (upper and lower) ready, but they need to wait (at least should wait) until the rain moves out first before opening.
Here's my wildest guess: they should be able to open on Friday - if they open on Thursday, you'll just WANT to wait until Friday to ski it any way.
Pretty WILD day at Timberline Resort:
Groomers are exhausted after opening two new trails (Lower Thunder, and Winterset)
Crowd was minimal
Food was actually good (I think it was the good ambiance)
Nastar is "all in place" - and ready for action (photos)
Snow was just super fun (I'd prefer 25 inches of powder, but we will agree this is good)
Here are a few photos from Wed, Jan 18th 2012
...I think there were more folks on tele than skis and boards combined yesterday...
14 tele skiers, 7 snowboarders, and couple of skiers... Those are about all the photos I got yesterday.
Another Gridlock at Timberline!
i was hopin to run into you when i saw the tucker mobile when i went for my after work runs, ended up skiin with vic and few wg'rs. condish was a little better than i expected
yeah, I've been on skis way more than a board this season...but still a beginner, at best...guess that is why it so fun, since the mountain seems huge...I'm over riding the board if I can touch the bottom, ridin' the board at the slime does nothing for me anymore really...got a pair of Rosi bc 110 and some karhu leather boots and lovin' em...hopin' to get some snow and take em over to the whitegrass!
Same Day, also at Timberline Resort - but this time Collegial Slalom Race down White Lightning:
40+ more photos will be added to this album before 6h30am.
BTW... for those who weren't there:
Timberline's weather was nothing to brag about today... thick fog... the kind that made you think that the month of October was right around the corner. Tomorrow is supposed to be a whole lot better, SUNNY... after today, I am pretty much ready for "anything".
Time to FREE YOUR HEELS... with some telemark skiing.
The day didn't start well: lousy snow, cold...
By 12 noon, everything turned "near perfect".
By 2pm, there were 3 times as many telemark skiers than alpine skiers.
Check out "living proof": 40+ photos
http://smu.gs/xHE7Gb
awesome, Adam Chase grew an extra arm!
I was wondering if people actually "looked" at the photos.
Today, coming in First Place: Chaga!!!
Good photos Vic! After spending Saturday and Sunday in ski skool teaching lessons, I had the pleasure of Monday's sweet surface to do many turns on. Won't be back until Friday night so my routine starts all over again at 7:30 AM, Saturday, with groups.
On another note, I was wondering if Steven was still on the planet. Hey Ski Bum! Why don't you join us for some runs at t-line this season? You can do the luau again.
Thanks Vic, now I'm about half home-sick...haha
Glad that you all seem to enjoy photos so much.
Here are some facts:
You all know how much I enjoy telemark skiing...
You all know that I have a passion for photography...
Looking at photo STATISTICS though, I am really surprised to see how many people have totally enjoyed the above tele photos. What are you guys doing???
Visiting AND re-visiting the telemark mania????
thanks for watching... I am really glad you enjoyed the photos. Now, then... get on tele gear!
Kicking off the end of the week with:
Lousy weather that came to an end at about 11am...
Snow that started right about then...
WV Special Olympics 2012... great sports & you got to love each participant's enthusiasm - with 40+ photos
Watch
www.visitcanaan.com tomorrow morning... for my favorite photo of the day.
Two inches of fresh snow as I woke up this morning. Not the best winter for the snow fanatics, but still snow, and still skiing every day.
I need to see more telemark skiers going through gates!
anytime we see gates set up we usually ski em! (not during races)
look at the f'cast for tomorrow..looks like the corn will be poppin' nicely enough to enjoy the bumps on OTW!
Chaga: make plans for Thursday tele-gate skiing at Tline... Gates will be up for 2 hours Thu through Monday.
Nice picture(s) of the human groomer!
caution: uphill skiers and dogs!
Here are some photos OPS for you:
Timberline will be hosting its Telemark Workshop on Feb 5th - with an added "plus" - Educational Video (a pretty good one as far as I have been told).
How does it work?
Show up at 8h30am in the EVENT ROOM for the video.
Sign up for the telemark workshop (open to all levels, high ratio of instructors at your service and one photographer on hand for movement analysis).
Get discount lift tickets...
Get solid knowledge, feedback and drills to make you a better tele skier.
Photos?
We'll take photos during your workshop, and personalize it all with movement analysis. The best, only the best, will be posted here and on AKA FLASH.
What are you waiting for?
Call Timberline ski school, ask for Annie or Booby.
Cheers!
PS. Don't mind the spelling errors - need more sleep!!!
You know that visitcanaan has been down all afternoon? Or at least too busy to handle requests. Including the T-Line snow report.
working here... the webcam has been down though.
Still not working here. Sure your servers can handle the load or there isn't some routing issue? This isn't the first time I've had this problem, but it's definitely been the longest blackout period.
Try this:
empty your cache...
refresh the page...
if still not working, simply refresh page again...
One of these will do - I HOPE!
John... what have you done? ahahahah
Your computer is broken - get a new one (or stop on by the house, and I will GIVE you a new one)
I just called two people (offsite) - asked them to lot on to both sites... everything was fine out of Hawaii and France!
You must be in DC?!
Can't ping akaflash.com (64.202.189.170), so you likely have some connectivity issues.
Seriously dude, you better stop blaming people's computers or you won't survive long in the tech world.
And BTW, I'm the other John, just so yer clear.
I guess I can't please everyone ALL the time with free posting of photos, conditions, etc... Yet, I am one of the few remaining web designer still in business since 1997 - in the tech world.
My servers might be maxed out right now, but then it still seems strange that two people from completely different areas of the world were able to connect to servers on demand).
Come on down to Timberline John... I'll make sure you get all cut-up with full screen images at your disposition: 17.6" monitor, 4 feet away from ski school so no one has to walk far. BTW: I am not skiing right now, but heard that the conditions are getting better by the minute.
They might even make snow tonight!!!! YEAHAAAAAAHHHH
I guess I can't please everyone ALL the time with free posting of photos, conditions, etc...
Personally, I don't really care if your site is up, but since Timberline insists on hosting it's snow report on your site, I do care if that one page is up. And it's not. I was doing some further troubleshooting and found out it's not that page, it's IP connectivity to your sites. Which I'm assuming you're using the same ISP for hosting. Could be location dependent connectivity problems, but they do exist. And Timberline is getting a lot of pissed off customers as a result.
Everything works for me down here in the Carolinas..Fixed?
PS..Do you think TL will be making Snow next week when they can Voila?..Worried for my Relos coming all the way over from England...& just because they are English..Don't sabotage operations
...
Well, after calling Hawaii & France (and knowing that it works for couple of people in Canaan Valley) I left it alone. Thanks FishgoSki!
I am playing with my NTN bindings... if it makes sense to you, then you know I am smiling!
Timberline is getting a lot of pissed off customers as a result.
...sounds like par for the course...
Here's a RUDE awakening, but first, let's start with the good news:
Every time someone says that the conditions at x, y or z place suck, I happen to ski Timberline with an "epic-like day", thus reminding me that we are very fortunate up here. On the other hand:
For those NOT happy with the ski report, its hosting status, etc... here's something you should really pay attention to and need to know:
Hosting:
I have asked Timberline to let me handle their website, including a dedicated server for hosting (several years ago, and then repeatedly) but that was DENIED. Currently, their hosting is far weaker than www.VisitCanaan.com's hosting.
Snow Report:
Used to be released to the public at 8:45am, 9:30am, and sometimes even 11am.
Now, you can have it always before 6:30am, on any given day.
General:
Timberline is about to have a new website, built by a firm who's never done a resort website of any sort. You will probably have an integrated snow report (as you should) but questions:
What makes you think that the snow report will be out before 7am???
What makes you think it will be accurate???
You will be able to see it on an iPhone...
What makes you think that the hosting will be on a dedicated server?
Are you dreaming???
Currently, 0.005% of people cannot tap onto our servers to see the snow report. Do you think that this number will increase or decrease with this New Firm?
Do you think that the new web designer knows anything about telemark skiing, photography, or sharing valuable info to skiers and boarders?
Heck, there's a whole team of them, but they do not know the difference between carving and skiing 1992-style.
Does it matter?
Well, if you don't think it matters, then you are better off with them - without my snow report. At least, I give a Sh@#t and LOVE TO SKI, BOARD, and TELE.
Catch me tomorrow, I will have a fever, will be coughing, but I will still be skiing - like the other 105 days out of the year.
Sorry you don't like my snow report. If you want to see an immediate change, and if you would rather see Timberline without my snow report, call them... ask for the general manager... but be careful: He'll eventually listen to you!
After couple of complaints, you'll have YOUR snow report: by 11am -
You'll be looking for photos... right?
You'll be looking for my feedback... Tucker's feedback... or others?
Wish away if that's your way.
Problem appears to be with your hosting company. Looks like you registered your domains with GoDaddy and also host via a GoDaddy-affilated company that uses secureserver.net (secureserver.net is registered to GoDaddy) Problem is with lower level internet routing going through the gateway server of your hosting company:
Name: pwfwd-v01.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net
Address: 64.202.189.170
Edit: All communications fail at that server. Checking via tracert, it appears that your servers are not even being reached. I can verify that later.
No issues whatsover with
www.timberlineresort.com So yeah, their website sucks, but at least one can reach it to determine that it sucks.
John: this thread was started to SHARE photos, for the people of DCSki. Next time you have issues with my servers, it would be nice if you would pick up the phone and ask others if they are experiencing the same problem. If they are, you should opt to contact me directly: vic@akaflash.com
This will avoid 100's of people deviated from seeing the fun we are all having in the valley.
Or is your host service Cogent Communications?
Regardless, wacked out Internet routing to visitcanaan.com and akaflash.com
...you doing ok Vic...noticed no new photos on visitcanaan or this thread the last 2 days...appreciate the services you provide on your own time....
I just put 7 new photos on
www.VisitCanaan.com - it wasn't a powder day, but I apologize for skiing my heart out. I just couldn't stop skiing yesterday, and really wished they would have stayed opened another 3 to 4 hours past closing.
Timberline Resort was pretty good - I won't even mention names, but people from the "other" resorts were skiing Tline. Guess that's why I didn't want to stop skiing on Sat (or Sunday for that matter).
Feel free to add more photos on HERE - so that I can take more breaks and ski more.
great photos!..really shows the sweet conditions...sun's out again today...hope to get out this afternoon for some turns...
Say what, say where, say who dat!?!?!? (:^O)>>>
...incognito on the slopes and the net...classic first post by the way...
CAPTION for the last 3 photos:
Man on Tele, having fun.
Woman on Tele, really enjoying life.
A bunch of people on the snow, really REALLY enjoying the snow.
Okay - future caption will be far better - but I assure you that the people in them will still be having fun.
Will Tline be openning The Drop this weekend?
hummm... NO WAY
(as in I really really don't think so)
They are working on Twister right now - as fast as they can during the night.
I'll venture up there on both slopes and get a better visual on snow height!
Need about 2 FEET of natural snow to cover the Drop - sorry - that doesn't look like it's happening in the next 2 days - on the other hand, I cannot stress enough how incredible the conditions were today at Timberline. Based on the weather being cold and dry at night, sunny and 36-38 during the day, the skiing has been fantastic!
It's like being in Europe - like the good old days skiing with blue skies, but still cool; it gives the snow a "perfect" quality that has NOTHING to do with powder, everything to do with perfect glide and grip (aka: Hero snow).
Pictures? Forget it!!! I was way too busy making one run after another - couldn't get enough of it for the last two days. Perhaps someone else can take over - perhaps someone else has some cool photos.
PS. I am sure that Canaan Valley ski area was just about the same: uncrowded, and perfect snow condition.
Is the poster identified as p-r paying attention here? LOL

since we have to endure so many cloudy wet days around here, it's all about those sunny days! granted i only get to ski an hour a day late afternoon, and granted i would rather being skiing at white grass, but i'll take what i can get, so far there have been alot more days with nice conditions than not.
the chain gang keeping things buff in the park
local pro patrol decided to build a new shack for the nationals all in jest
sunny days = great sunsets!
hey Vic! What the real skinny on snowmaking at t-line?
The report shows snowmaking on twister, the drop, and lower dew. It's shown that for weeks but we all know that they haven't made a flake on the drop. So.... what's the real story?
Snowmaking equipment is in place - and they are blowing snow AT NIGHT only.
Most of the water pumps are giving Twister ski trail priority! After the 18-22 inches of snow we are about to have (I mean 4 inches), we should be seeing flying colors of white all over the place. This weekend looks unreal.
Seriously, and all jokes aside, I cannot tell you enough how unreal good the conditions have been for the past two days. I can't remember that many sunny days on the snow (with blue skies) for the past 11 years!
Hummm... I should just remove the snowmaking on the drop, but they have all the sticks ready to ROCK up there. We'll see how things look by tomorrow evening. Right this second, it's snowing pretty hard (nope, I don't mean a flake or two, I mean SNOWING) and snowmaking is in progress.
I agree that it should be good considering all things. Then there is the USSA races in the mornings.
No report yet from Chip. He must be out skiing.
There's a mighty fine snowstorm in progress right now (9:50AM, 2/8/12) on Timberline's webcam!
...pretty sweet surface this afternoon...I'd say 3-4 inches of wet snow (unofficial count while skiing..cough, cough, I mean working)...there were actually probably a couple dozen folks out makin' laps...no pics, but it was fun...hear its gonna be a zoo this weekend w/ the ussa racers and the groups, hear they were maybe tring to push twister out thin to accomodate the junk show, but that's just hear/say...
...pretty sweet surface this afternoon..........
Agreed, I had a late afternoon "Meeting" at Wisp that I had to attend. Nothing but work, work, work......
Got some fresh tracks in, including some fun runs down through the Bobcat Bowl. Lots of people at Wisp, no lift lines, but the parking lot was pretty full.
TIME to start hiking ski resorts - more snow's coming, and we all need to get in shape!
Here's a morning view of the base of the mountain (Timberline), complete with snow guns at full speed
Off the Wall, lit by "Candle Lights" on skier's left - Timberline Resort
Thanks for keeping us apprised Vic. You the man!
Who photographs the photographer? JimK does!
(yes, we were watching "The Watchmen" this afternoon.) Just two of the many pictures Jimk will be posting once he gets back.
SARA Giant Slalom Race at Timberline yesterday - entire gallery:

Good Photos Vic. I'm trying to get the skinny on snowmaking on the hill. Are they now blowing on the Drop and AH or going back over to put another layer down on WL? I was pleasantly pleased of the commitment to make snow by the management. The product they are producing is by far one of the best anywhere.
I'm hearing rumors that Tline won't start blowing snow on The Drop until 2013!
There's definitely plenty of snow cover on The Drop right now, a really nice base. They are blowing there using the stationaries - but not all day. While the trail has some really nice snow, it will need several inches of natural or several hours of more snow making (this is my best guess, but that's the way it looks).
More snow is coming tonight - and tomorrow.
Since only "so much water" can be pulled by our numerous pumps, they are making a really good effort on Salamander (and giving it priority). There were about 12 guns there at full speed.
They were also adding an amazing additional base on the top of the main triple, and at the top 200 feet of Upper Dew Drop.
Snow making was also in progress (at full speed) on Lower White Lightning.
Here's what I am seeing:
I thought we had only 2 really good pumps, and one okay one... but from the amount of snow that they were making today, it looked as though we had 5 pumps.
Got to love it though... skied the trees ALL afternoon - without a scratch BTW.
Glad you like the photos.
... and never mind all the other multiple areas where they were also blowing snow - like Lower Dew (for the big X-Race coming up).
Let me start a rumor here:
Timberline is stealing all the water from Canaan, AND they took all of their water pumps to an undisclosed location on Timberline. Okay, enough dreaming... the skiing was just so good that I am still on a roll (sorry)

Have you skied The Drop?
I am going to have to take the 4th on that one!
(I recommend staying off of it if you like your skis and your lift ticket)
On a better note, most of this video was shot today:
http://vimeo.com/36740489**** You'll notice tree skiing ****
Vic nice video. Glad you warmed up. Brutal weather sunday. Who is the guy on teles skiing the trees at the end? I dont recognize him. Keep up the good work.
See you this weekend
Tom
The NAME is.... Steve Kaufman... making his "appearance on tele".
It's his first time telemarking (but he has a strong alpine background).
*** Seriously though: it's Steve, and obviously not his first day !
Thanks vic. Never see him on anything but racing gear on weekends.
See you soon
He's a pretty darn good athlete - I personally like to see him on tele more than race stuff. Steve & I only have one thing in common:
We froze on Sat... froze some more on Sun... and thoroughly enjoyed Monday!!!
See you this weekend.
We froze on Sat... froze some more on Sun... and thoroughly enjoyed Monday!!!
Monday was epic bluebird weather, as you can see from some of the opening shots in vic viddy. But I couldn't imagine sitting and freezing on a chairlift in those winds and -15F wind chill sat/sun!
Since the only place in WV that gets snow is Snowshoe according to the weather channel, I sent a copy of this video to them, and I heard they showed it a few times, though didn't see it myself.
http://vimeo.com/36673532 with some french music for vic
Notice the 100's of people!
Did you get a pic of the GS crash where the one lady went /through/ the gate flag?
I got couple of crashes Djop... tried to limit the crash showing this Sat and Sun as it was a bit too many (even for my taste).
Love that French music - it's a classic, and I can't even remember who the author is?!!! I guess after 30 years in the states, I am decultured (and just added a new word to your vacab)
Vic from this past weekend at the races. You the man!
Thanks Jim - but that wasn't me. The guy isn't wearing tele skis and ... I wouldn't be standing near an ice plate to take photos of racers.
Thanks Jim - but that wasn't me. The guy isn't wearing tele skis and ... I wouldn't be standing near an ice plate to take photos of racers.
Oops, sorry Vic. Thought I had you. I might yet, took about 300 low res photos over the weekend. Nothing like the quality of your photos! Were you in a green jacket?
Yeah... the green jacket.
I'll have another video to share pretty soon - but you got to wait because I am still laughing.
Here's the other video I was talking about:
Feb 25 & 26: Telemark Festival (Timberline Resort WV)
We'll have a TELEBOARD on demo - all weekend long!
Here's a quick thriller:
https://vimeo.com/36845127 Are you still watching this?
What are you waiting for?
Echo Denis
Thanks
The Colonel
Echoes?
I like "echoes" - but in all seriousness, glad that you enjoyed the video clips.
I am going to have to take the 4th on that one!
The right to not be subject to unreasonable search and seizure?
God given right to ski (every day) if that's what you want - with little or no speed limits
VIC: photo op tomorrow (friday)
The hip, new principal at Tucker County High School is letting all the kids with the best attendance and grades out early and taking them to Tline to ski around noon! Have to arrange a group photo?
Call me on my cell... 940.3009 - any time after 7am or simply contact Timberline Ski School. I'll take good care of them.
We'll have a TELEBOARD on demo
Hey Vic, have you gotten any photos or video of people trying this thing out yet?
Just got my tele board - from my good friends at Telemarkdown.com - tell them I sent you and they'll give you a discount.
In the meantime, I will have the board on DEMO at Timberline resort during the telemark festival.
You know the dates?
You know to come out?
You know we got snow!
Hope to see you then!!!

Weekend Video: Telemark Festival at Timberline - Day 1
https://vimeo.com/37449713 If you haven't left your house yet, now is about the time: I am personally calling it a 4-star day (based on the moon and sun alignment, as well as fantastic snow conditions following our little storm).
Great viedo...sure makes me wish I was there learning this method of sliding down a snowy hillside!
What is the difference between telemark skis and regular "cross country skis"? I tried cross country skis on a trail in Colorado once years ago and found it really difficult with no way to weight the downhill ski. This sure looks diff :)erent in that respect.
The Colonel
Glad you liked the video -
Telemark skiing is more geared towards downhill ski resort, HOWEVER:
Once you learn to telemark, you can explore the backcountry - using skis with scales or placing skins on your skis for the climb. It's also referred to as: earning your turns.
The truth is that you can make a tele turn using any cross-country ski (with or without metal edges) - in fact, you can also make a tele turn using skating skis. Unfortunately, it's a whole lot faster to learn to make a telemark turn using telemark skis than it is to learn to make a tele turn using x-country skis.
It shouldn't come as a surprise that coming down a mountain with xc skis (tele turns the whole way down) will take great patience, lots of skills to learn, and plenty of time.
Telemark is a whole lot easier (again) and very rewarding for its versatility. Keep in mind that 3000 years ago, many people used telemark skis for traveling (no, not like hotel traveling, more like HUNTING). They are still used today.
You might as well know that Alpine skiing is a very recent sport (considering the invention or a rear binding no sooner than the early 50's or something).
So... when will we have the pleasure of having you try it out?
Okay... here's another video:
https://vimeo.com/37513003 These 3+ minutes were shot on White Lightning, at Timberline resort.
Main skiers: Tennis Tom, Tom, and Adam.
Date: yesterday - Sunday, Feb 26 2012
Vic - great work on all the fantastic pics and videos you have posted this year. I know how much work it takes to put those together and get them posted the very next day. No reason for snow reports when you can see the actual goods.
PS - can't speak for other resorts but Timberline on Sunday was as good as it gets this winter. Great snow, lots of sunshine and no crowds.
Thanks Tennis Tom!
I have just created a video that I hope you'll enjoy... it's 17 minutes long. I am not sure about placing it online just yet... but will keep you posted.
On a different note: you should have seen the conditions today - 4 stars, without a doubt (only, and I stress only) drawback was the stickiness on crossroads (where everything merged).
Off the Wall: Not yet groomed but you ought to see the video.
Drop: forget it - it's still closed
White Lightning: wow - there are gods for skiers!
Thunder: downright perfect.
Dew Drop: didn't know I could still have this much fun.
Tomorrow should be a repeat of today - in better.
Wed should be pretty sucky.
Weekend forecast looks good though.

tomorrow looks like awesome spring sunny corn day. vic pls don't make the video 17mins because anyone with internet in this county will never be able to view it!
For those of you at work in DC: Turn up your speakers for this 17 minute video.
You may (after all) be one of the 3 people in the country who will be able to see this video (based on Chaga: NOT EVEN YOU should be able to see it)
Video Link:
https://vimeo.com/37565150Location: Timberline Resort, WV
Skiers: Adam Klein, Tennis Tom, Tom Schibly, Warren Wick, and couple of other locals from Davis, WV.
Slopes: Anything worth skiing at Timberline, in other words: pretty much everything earlier today.
Vic
Another nice video. Looks like another great day. Adam you dog - first week after your promotion and you skip out on a monday (sans helmut - is that your disguise). Boy has david improved since last year.
Keep up the good work vic
Anyone honestly falling asleep while watching the above 17min vid?
(come on, be honest here - feedback won't cost you a thing, but will help a bunch)
Timberline has a pretty big weekend coming:
Homage to the Women's workshop, I believe that there are separate workshop for Telemark skiing, snowboarding and Alpine skiing.
There's a Race open to the public: Wendy's - it's usually open to skiers and snowboarders.
Coverage-wise:
We'll do the movement analysis for the workshops, and the photo coverage for the race. The race shall be online the next morning.
In the meantime, here's a video shot on Tuesday: epic conditions (considering the end of the season is slowly approaching)
https://vimeo.com/38088153No matter what your plans, ENJOY!
Look at Vic getting a little funky!
For a while there it looks like you're just following around the only guy on the mountain.
Can't say there was a big crowd - but here and again, it also seems to have been the norm this year: above average snow condition (no, not much powder) but no one around to enjoy it.
This morning, Epic!
The sun came out as I was coming back in - it was colder than expected (below 30).
Taking a wild guess, there will be no one at the resort until about 2pm.
The sun will be playing out and seek...
I'll go eat at The Trail Mix.

of course, that's about the time when the locals start escaping work to get some skiing in! just so happens it's also about the time when the snow really turns perfect on stuff like off the wall if it has frozen solid the night before
I'll go eat at The Trail Mix.
Now that's one of the best things I've read in this entire thread. More people skiing TLine need to do themselves a HUGE favor and take a quick jaunt over there for lunch for some tasty lunch and selection of great beer! Why eat the slop at timbers/cafeteria when Trail Mix is a block away?!?!?!
Snowy Luau Festival VIDEO:
https://vimeo.com/38706667 - all shot on Sat Mar 17 2012.
(lots of mountain coverage, but no fireworks / lava flow)
** I know most of you were there for the drinking and lava **
Update: to spice things up a bit this morning: rain at 6:30am - but seemingly just passing.
Nice video! I think you need to be young and durable to fall on that thin layer of snow! I liked where you caught the kids giggles running. It set a happy mode from the beginning.
