What are my best bets for simple overnight lodging within about 20 minutes to Timberline?

I don't care about a lot of amenities or anything fancy -- I'm looking for safe, clean, affordable.

In the past I got a recommendation for staying in the lodge at Blackwater Falls State Park, which I heard was kinda dingy but adequate.

This is for one night with the express goal of skiing at Timberline.

What you may want to try is the Village Inn right behind Big Johns Pizza place on 32. It's the closest andc least expensive choice unless you want to stay at Timberline's "hotel" which is more expensive but slopeside. I've had friends stay there and the cost is reasonable, the place clean and it's convenient.

Assuming you don't need a condo, the Canaan Valley Resort is similar to the Blackwater Falls lodge but only about 3-4 miles from Timberline ski area. It runs a lot of stay&ski specials, but usually linked with skiing at Canaan Valley ski area. Sometimes in March the CV Resort offers single weekend night rooms for only around $40.

Black Bear Resort is another reasonable option. I've stayed there a few times and always liked it.
