Crested Butte Deal
January 27, 2012
I got a great deal slope side for me and my son that included, flights, hotel, lift tickets, and shuttle to/from airport for under 2k for both of us for 4 nights 3 days. Late feb. when my kid is out of school. I am looking forward to it, since it will be my first time skiing " out west". Now I need to get out and get my legs under me!
Not too shabby.
The Inn at Snowbird has some nice deals too. I was there last week and we were under $2k for lodging, airport connection and lift tickets for two for a week. We flew for free on rewards points.
Have fun out there Bumps, believe CB just got a foot or more of much needed snow. I've never been to CB, so expecting a few comments here on how you liked it when you get back.
Like a lot of places in Colorado, CB has a pretty high base elevation over 9k feet if I'm not mistaken. You might consider taking an inexpensive prescription of Diamox which could help in accelerating acclimatization. It has for me on some western trips, especially short duration visits like yours.
Fair warning, if you take Diamox, anything carbonated will taste terrible.
I wouldn't bother with diamox, just drink lots of water and avoid alcohol. One aspirin in the morning as well. I carry a Platypus water bladder in my inside pocket and drink on the lift. I fill and refill it with hot water from the rest room tap. Caveat, I apparently have a good physiology for altitude. I have several times flown from DC and skied hard that afternoon at Loveland or A Basin. I also drink beer but go easy for a few days.
Thanks for altitude tips. I didn't realize it was so high, but I routinely go to places at 6 to 7k for work and doesn't bother me too much, so will probably rely on hydrating mostly. Not sure how my son will acclimate, but he's young
. We will take it easy and enjoy the experience and not put pressure to do it all. I will however drink a couple beers ! How can I be in such a great old ski town and not try a beer somewhere? If all the people are as nice as the travel agency folks working at CB, i will have a great time. They ran multiple scenarios over a few days for me and also got me a room with 2 queen beds vs. The king that was part of the standard package. Thought of fighting my 6ft 200lb 16 year old for the bed all week was scary
. Everytime I called they were super nice and never rushed me. So it has already started out as a good experience. I am surprised at how excited I am getting over this trip. I haven't anticipated something so much in longer then I can remember!
Not too shabby.

Where did you fly from to get to Snowshoe?
Snowbird. In Utah.
Once you're getting on a plane, you might as well head for the good stuff.
If that was just a typo, then BWI. Southwest and Delta both fly direct to SLC. Personally, I use Southwest due to rewards points and no bag fees (nice if you're checking skis). They also fly direct into Denver and Albuquerque (closest airport to Taos).
I did once fly out of Dulles too for a direct flight to somewhere out west, but BWI is a lot closer for me.
wait let me get this straight, why did you fly from Snowbird to Snowshoe?
Is this an Abbot and Costello routine?
I've never been to Snowshoe.
I've never been to Snowqualmie
My fault...I'm just so familiar with the Inn at Snowshoe that my eyes glazed over when I read "The Inn at Snow....." and Snowshoe just jumped into my head. Once I read that you FLEW there, I should have looked back more closely, but I'm a lazy reader, what can I say.
I'm pretty sure I Don't Know is at the Inn at Snowshoe, though.
No that's I Don't Care, I Don't Know is at Snowbird
Oh i see, who's on first i don't know is at Snowbird?
