Hopefully these changes keep coming East.

From Snowbird's Facebook: "Don't you love when you wake up and the snow forecast is better than when you went to bed? Looks like we could be in for 10-16 inches today, and another 10-14 inches tonight!"

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php...111.637&e=1

And more importantly, from http://tahoeweatherdiscussion.com/
"8 AM UPdate:

Kirkwood now reporting 14 inches at the base and Mt. Rose 21 inches at the summit. Looks like these 2 will be the first to break the 2 foot mark. Sugar Bowl about a foot now. 6 inches in Truckee. Plenty of orographic snowfall forming. Mammoth is reporting 2-3 feet up top.

Storm for Sunday into Monday is being shown in 2 waves now by the models. First wave moves in Sunday afternoon with another Monday afternoon. Total liquid of 1-2 inches with snow levels down to lake level or lower the entire event. 9-15 inches at lake level, 1-2 feet above 7000 ft., possibly over 2 feet along the crest by MOnday night. This is on top of where we end up by tonight.

Taking the kids out for some fun in the snow. Next update this evening to look at new totals. Keep sending in snowfall reports to post on the Reader Reports page. BA"

I guess I'll gloat a little bit...

I was actually out in Utah this past weekend skiing that big storm. Incredible conditions, had over a foot on Saturday while I was up at Snowbasin, 27" of fresh at Solitude (Sunday), and then over 12" of fresh at Snowbird on Monday.

The downside was that Little Cottonwood Canyon was closed until about 1pm on Sunday due to avalanches, and once they opened Snowbird was mobbed. They only ran the Gad lifts for about 2 hours. I hit up the bird on Monday with perfect timing. Peruvian wasn't opened until after lunch and that entire side of the mountain was untouched, fresh tracks all afternoon. Alta remained closed all of Sunday and was only partially open on Monday.

Right now the base is very unstable out there, Mineral Basin is still closed and there are shears all over the place. Each place I was at patrol was blasting constantly trying to shake things out. I heard a few stories of patrol and instructors getting caught in small slides on in bounds terrain this past weekend.

If you go out there stay away from the backcountry and be careful!
