Hey everyone!! So I've been lame lately and only stalking on the forum thanks to a hectic work/ski schedule. But, I have some big news that is really exciting for me and everyone in the local ski community!

The website OpenSnow (fka ColoradoPowderForecast) was created by a friend of mine with the goal of combining local ski forecast bloggers nationwide into a single website. Unlike most sites, OpenSnow meteorologists are all local skiers that know the dynamics of the mountains they forecast and completely obsessed with two things: weather and snow. Basically, the idea is to provide the type of forecast that really tells you if it will be a good day to ski rather than a computerized forecast that tells you the high temperature and gives you an image for what the weather might be like.

Joel Gratz, the founder of the site and a friend of mine from the PSU Ski Team (obsessed enough with snow that he moved to Boulder, CO), asked if I could fill the role as the local forecaster for the Mid-Atlantic (WV, MD, VA, PA, and possible NC). So I am happy to announce that I will writing the "Mid-Atlantic Daily Snow" and forecasting 5-day snow totals each morning for every resort in our area!

The first Daily Snow will go live tomorrow morning but the resort snow total forecasts are already up through Feb 1st. It would be great if everyone could take a look at the site and tell your ski buddies/coworkers/random people on the street that the site is up and running!!!

Please let me know if you have any input! I'll post here as soon as the first daily snow is live.

OK back up and running!!

Here is a link to my first "Daily Snow"

Please please please provide input and forward the link to anyone/everyone who might be interested!

One section I am still toying with is the "President's Daily Snow" section... I thought it would be fun to add some DC flare to the forecast where I could throw in a few funny comments here and there when the weather is interesting. My issue is what to name the section??? It will almost always be a one sentence summary.

Sure looks like sometime late weekend/early next week thru at least mid Feb we could be on the snowy cold side of things!...Good luck with everything L-Ski..

PS..how many comebacks is this for you now?...L-Ski...the comeback kid!

Calling it "Presidents" anything is confusing...at first I thought you were discussing the Presidents Weekend forecast, a big mid Atl ski event.

ahhh... good point Colonel. Any other suggestions fro at title? Maybe even take out the section altogether?

and Fish, you are correct. Probably makes about 6 times I have gone 4+ months without a DCSki posting then magically returned

The ski forecasting thing for our area is always something I have played with. I did a few forecasts here in College then got distracted with my billion hours of coursework. Also, I believe it was a year and a half ago that I posted here asking for opinions about creating a unique site for DC. When I started asking friends for advice, I sparked interest from my friend who is doing opensnow and he said I should just wait until he got his page up and running so I could fill in as the DC local guy

Long road but hopefully this thing somewhat takes on a life of itself! Excited to see where it goes

I've been watching that site to see how my upcoming trip to CO will be in a couple of weeks. I'm all for having a local connection to the site!
