A day trip to Snowshoe for $79 (w lift ticket)
February 11, 2012
Found this deal on living social! Today (02/02) is the last day to purchase this deal.
https://www.livingsocial.com/deals/251938?ref=conf-jp&rpi=46109548(only for Feb 18th and 19th)
If you can get 3 more friends to go with you, the cost for the shuttle will only be $25 per person and you can buy a lift ticket for $54! I almost decide to not go to snowshoe this season but this is a pretty sweet deal.
not go because of the conditions or, because you are boycotting them for some reason? please advise
I used to go to Snowshoe a lot but for the past few years I go to Timberline/Canaan Valley much more. The main reason is I have not been able to find good deals for lodging and lift tickets at Snowshoe.
The lift tickets are expensive there at Snowshoe -- at $79! (Costco used to sell Snowshoe lift tickets but not anymore) When I found out about this deal, I was surprised to learn that the lift ticket is only $54 (but you have to purchase shuttle ticket from them).
Since LivingSocial deal is already over, you will have to pay the full price of $69 for same-day round-trip shuttle service to/from Snowshoe and DC/Fairfax.
Honestly, after reading a lot of comments in this forum, I feel like Snowshoe is underrated (Western Territory and Silver Creek!) while Timberline/Canaan Valley is slightly overrated here (slow lift, outdated lodge, really bad food). Both are areas are great to me.
I think the service that nacski.com is offering is reasonably priced but I am a bit hesitant to use them if I have to pay the full price of $69. Maybe, I will use them for last-minute trip if the forecast look very promising for a big dump.
That is a good deal, but cheap trips are not that difficult...

I used to use the Canaan Valley State Park campground. It was especially nice for late season spring skiing when it never got too cold. I had a bunch of young tele skiing and climbing friends. We'd sleep in tents or the backs of our cars. The camping fee at that time was $6 and entitled you to use of all the lodge facilities, like the hot tub. It was a lot of fun. Those guys and gals who were all 20 years younger than me, grew up, got married, moved away etc.
