Hidden Valley's conditions fyi
February 4, 2012
HV's conditions early day today were obviously very icy in many spots; however, an 8 hour persistent snow that landed about 4.5" of snow really helped them today. Tomorrow should be a GREAT day of riding for anyone that gets out there. Narrowing slopes and icy conditions received a gift today for sure.
Be careful though, many ridges formed of ice with powder or assumed to be pushed / scraped snow will throw you violently, especially if you are riding a board and initiating a turn.
They built up 3 monster (to me) jumps on the north summit intermediate slope. A small, medium and large. All pretty much seemingly not much different than the other as they were all about 25' high.
Overall the lift lines were almost none existent but there were ALOT of new riders and once/twice a year riders out today for some reason. Alot of bad behavior and bad etiquette today. The north summit pit stop lodge was full quite often then suddenly empty a couple times.
Overall not too bad. The pushed snow created mini moguls all over which this 2nd year boarder found to be a challenge to keep from grabbing a backedge and dumping over or washing out the tail edge on a toe turn.
I watched a few people come dangerously close to snowmaking equipment and trees as they engaged speed , hit a ton of mini bumps that wouldnt allow them to hold their edge and balance. Not sure if they had to pull anyone down of the mountain today.
For SURE, a MUCH welcome sight seeing white landscape and some soft stuff to fall in, just be careful not to assume that flat area is safe for turning because likely, it's because there is significant ice below. Hopefully they will push the snow from the edges then groom but doubtful.
Also, if anyone from HV is reading this, PLEASE make snow this week as often as you can! I'm started to get concerned based on early conditions today that we are going to have a bleak Feb and early close if the receding slopes isnt helped with fresh snow, and ALOT of it.
