At Mariborsko Pohorje to be exact. Took a ride down from the Budapest area (Székesfehérvár). We have enough skiers in our Hungarian office to start a good size ski club. 7 of us went down there for some night skiing. Not many trails were lit but that still amounted to 4 lifts and a nice variety of ways down the mountain.

One very long combination blue/red trail was lit. Not sure of the length but it took us about 15 minutes per run. There were spectacular views of the night lights of the city of Maribor below. Must be beatiful during the day as well.

Also all of the pubs and restaurants on the lighted part of the mountain were open which gave plenty of opportunity to stop in for some hot wine or beer.

We skiied for 4 hours with only 1 quick beer stop and never got tired of the place. Some of the trails were freshly groomed for the evening and a few were untouched. Just a little bit of ice in spots but overall very nice snow. A very good resort among at least 2 dozen in Slovenia.

Here is a link with info about the resort:

To minimize potential confusion...
For we US skiers:
The color coding of slopes in Europe is different than in the US.
US
Green=Easiest
Blue=More Difficult
Black=Most Difficult
while in
Europe
Blue=Easiest
Red=More Difficult
Black=Most Difficult

GRK,
What are you doing in Slovenia and Hungary?
I thought you had earlier indicated a job related move to Indiana was in your future.

Hi The Colonel

Thanks for clarifying...maybe if I had more ski days in the Mid-A this season I would have gotten the color coding right!

Yes, I am moving to Indianapolis which is bad but not disastrous from a skiing standpoint. With a 7 hour drive I can still hit everywhere in WV, Western PA, and Holiday Valley. Plus I am anxious to try some of the Michigan areas.

The real silver lining is that we have several locations very close to good skiing and I have good reasons to visit these places on legitimate business travel:

Ellicottville, NY (Holiday Valley)
Santiago, Chile (Portillo)
Székesfehérvár, Hungary (western Austria and Slovenia)
Worms, Germany (Bavarian Alps)
Nogi, Japan (access to several resorts)
Salt Lake City, Utah (take your pick)
Richmond, Va (WTG and the Nut)
Seoul, South Korea (several resorts within a short drive).

So it could be a LOT worse smile
