Well my plan to ski Wisp and Timberline this weekend worked out very well. Given the winter, I had a very enjoyable skiing experience both days. Saturday at Wisp was nice - bright blue skies although it did get quite warm in the afternoon. It was pretty crowded - but never waited more then 10 - 15 minutes in a lift line. I especially liked the fact that both squirrel cage and the face were groomed. The face is short but pretty steep (who ever said that a steep slope can't be groomed!). Sorry to the folks who love bumps. It had been 30 years since I had been to Wisp - things have changed a lot!

We skied Timberline on Sunday. Only took about a hour to drive from Wisp. It was well worth it in my opinion. Skiing Wisp for two days would have been really boring. Timberline trails were very impressive for the mid-Atlantic. As everyone has been saying, they had decent conditions. By the end of the day, the slopes were getting a bit icy with all mad-made stuff being pushed to the sides. Yes - T-Line doesn't earn many points for the lifts and the lodge. Pretty rustic is about the best you can say. But I was there to ski, so we put up with the minus's. Especially this year.

Overall - both places complemented one another. Facilities better at Wisp, slopes better at T-Line. Skiing both places made for a good weekend!

Well put, IDM. I'm glad to read that you skied both and enjoyed both. Hope you got over to the North Camp runs at Wisp. They add a great deal to the experience.

Thanks for your trip report.

Skied Wisp on Monday. Conditions were great all day. Squirrel Cage and the Face were groomed again. Crowds were non existent. There was still corduroy left after lunch.

Did the Alpine slide too. Lots of fun. Weirdest run was Down under which went from nice loose granular, to ice, to packed power, to slush all in the matter of a couple hundred feet of vert.

Well worth the price of a lift ticket!

I hope conditions hold up until March 3rd. I have one more winter white sale ticket I need to use @ Wisp.

Wisp is in great shape. Skied there yesterday afternoon and was impressed with how much show they had made in the last couple of weeks. The only trail they will need to work on is Down Under as there were some brown spots and some very wet spots.

I spoke with some people who said that management was committed to staying open until April, thats assuming the weather holds out for them.

It was around 50f when I was skiing, but by 9pm it was 38F with snow & rain. Winter isn't over yet up on the hill.
