Speaking of Telemark
February 23, 2012
Next weekend is the Telemark Festival at Timberline. They hold a clinic on Saturday and races on Sunday. The student/teacher ratio is extremely low and the instructors are excellent. Even if you are an advanced skier you can benefit. There are several students that regularly participate that could be instructors. In fact, I never quite understand why advance skiers stop taking instruction but that is probably a discussion for another thread.
Cannot reiterate enough what a great deal these telemark workshops are...great instruction at every level and super economical for what it is! I am going to try to get out for that workshop for sure. And to add to Tom's thread drift...signing up for an upper level/intermediate group lesson for 30 bucks at t-line is a no brainer, the instruction for those upper level lessons is nothing but class. what says thebighelmet?
I was just at a one-day telemark clinic at Timberline earlier this month, and I can vouch for the excellence of the instruction at a beginner's level too. What a bunch of patient, insightful, supportive and effective teachers they have there! If only I wasn't working this coming weekend, I'd be back for sure.
Just a note to any newcomers who'd need to rent telemark gear out there - go to nearby White Grass Touring Center to get set up; Timberline itself has only a small boot selection (not all sizes available), and the skis are rather beaten-up old alpine boards - my understanding is they actually don't really want to compete with White Grass in the tele-gear arena, but I'm not sure the kids working the rental counter would know to tell you that if you came there first!
