Just returned from three days in Summit County and there was some fantastic skiing to be had.
We started Friday at A-Basin. It had snowed 8" or so the day before with about half of it after the mountain closed.
The upper Mountain was looking nice.
After a couple runs we headed over the top to Montezuma bowl just in time to see patrol drop the rope across the traverse to skier's left. This was followed by half a dozen runs in untracked powder in an intermediate bowl and some trees.
We then decided to go for a hike up onto the opposite ridge and made two runs down Max's.
At this point a storm front rolled in and visibility plummeted. Above tree line there was no definition in the snow at all. We spent the afternoon and Saturday on the lower mountain hiding from the storm. Did find a few small glades to play in.
Sunday morning we switched to Loveland before heading for the airport for 6pm flight. When the lifts opened, it was brutally windy with blowing snow, but shortly thereafter, things cleared up.
While the top areas near that were exposed to the wind were horrible messes of bumpy windpack, dropping over onto just about any face yielded piles of soft snow.
The run of the morning was Patrol Bowl. We went in maybe an hour after patrol finished bombing it and dropped the rope.
It's actually a lot steeper than it looks in those pictures. I'm guessing at least 40 degrees.
