In another forum, a person associated with Crotched posted the following tidbit

Quote:
(My summaries will only include the Northeast, but once we get out of the Northeast, we've got CM's old FGQ at Hidden Valley, MO and the Sky Trac installers said they are heading for an installation in VA when they finish at CM.)

Has anyone heard where this installation is going to be, or if it is even a ski area they are going to?

Bryce is getting a new 2500-foot chair, but it looks like a new one.

Here's a better link to the new Skytrac quad at Bryce.

Interesting that the new lift has conveyor loading. That's made it much easier for beginners at Mnut.

At Mnut, do people have trouble staying on the conveyor? Ever ridden the new Supreme lift at Alta? (Has a pretty high speed loading conveyor.) I personally hate the dang things and find they are trickier to board, but I'm 6'1" and weigh 200 lbs, so different physics for me versus a grade schooler. Or even an adult newbie.

Nothing can be the "power assist loader" for the young'uns at Mad Rivers single chair.

Officials at Virginia's Bryce Resort have announced the construction of a new chairlift this upcoming summer. The new quad chairlift, to be built by Skytrac, Inc. of Salt Lake City, Utah, will replace Bryce's current "Chair 1" which was part of the resort's original construction in 1965. The new lift will ease loading for beginners by featuring an automated chairKid loading conveyor relocated closer to the base of the ski area.

Will all four-across riders on the new Bryce chair need to use the chairKid loading conveyor?

I hate the conveyors even more than I hate walk-behind mowers.

The conveyor at Mnut is slower than the one on Supreme. The lifties are also more likely to try to teach people how to load. The person loading is supposed to put weight against the padded gate so that it can sense there is someone there. The bottom lifts at Mnut stop a LOT less with the conveyor loading since beginners are less likely to mess up loading, especially kids with parents who are also essentially beginners.

I see a lot of people loading Supreme who keep their poles behind the gate before it opens, which is not the best approach.

I dunno, skis were built to slide on frozen H2O, not to be gripped by plastic. Maybe it's over 40 years of accumulated muscle memory, but even hungover, drunk, stoned, powder stoked, distracted, exhausted and what have you, I never had an issue jumping on a chairlift. Every time I board the new Supreme lift, my body is saying "What the crap is this?"

Your post just hit me. Upside the head. crazy With the very rare exception of a lift that has a large gap between the wait spot and the loading zone, I never use my poles when boarding a lift. I just skate to the lift with poles at my side. I guess those lifts are expert unfriendly, but beginner friendly. Just not my preference.

Worst part is that I'm paying for the stupid new Supreme lift with each Alta lift ticket.
