I might have missed the articles, but I have not noticed any information about what is new at our local resorts(except for the better snowmaking, etc. at Wintergreen and additional glades at Snowshoe). Normally our fearless leader, Scott, has canvassed the resorts an published several updates for the upcoming season. But he is up to his elbows with revising DCSki, so it behooves us to take responsibility and try to post whatever we know about changes at the local resorts. Anybody know of changes to post?
One thing I learned when talking with the folks at Canaan Valley is that the new lodge rooms will not be available until next summer.
Hopefully all the upgrades at the ski area and tubing hill will be finished before this coming season, at least that is the plan as I understand it.
The Colonel
Hidden Valley Resort - Voyager now wider, lit and, has additional snowmaking. New high performance ski rentals available. Rental equipment reservation program expanded to include night reservations.
Roundtop bulldozed their halfpipe
The Snowtime Resorts (Whitetail, Roundtop, & Liberty) have new higher priced lift tickets for everyone's enjoyment.

Hidden Valley - add to your list:
- added snowmaking to the double black (?) Charger trail which is one of the more challenging trails at HV and also the first trail to receive snown making that is part of the future 'Outback' expansion
- Added padding to those hard quad chair seats for the North Summit quad chair lift.
- I believe they added some pumping capacity for snow making
Timberline upgraded their snowmaking capacity. Both with guns and pumps or at least that's what I've been led to believe. If what I've heard is true, we can expect more terrain, earlier, and deeper base if that's possible. Something about improving their grooming fleet, but I'll wait until Saturday to find out specifics.
More terrain, earlier??
Scheduled opening Dec. 13, ya?
Scheduled opening Dec. 13, ya?
Hopefully second weekend of the year for me.
From Wintergreen's mountain message web page...
-5 million gallons of on the mountain water storage allowing for increased production
-3000+ GPM of water cooling, resulting in increased production
-Massive 16 inch pipeline from the snowmaking plant to key points within the ski area, resulting in much higher water volume and increased water pressure
-Additional 4000 GPM of high pressure fully automated water pumping (previous max 4000 GPM) resulting in a total max production output of 8,000 GPM
-Additional 3000 GPM of water cooling. Cold water increases snow production
-Additional TechnoAlpin fan snow guns
-Additional MyNeige tower snow guns
T-line has incrased their pumping capacity exponentially. Should be able to make a lot of snow on both sides of the mountain at once. Some much larger guns in the base area and where they need to stockpile. Also improvements to snowmaking infrastructure. Noticed that they had guns positioned all the way up WL which probably means the rest are ready to go on Sally. I can't remember them being this far ahead of the curve this early.
On another note... CV is behind in their efforts to complete the upgrades prior to ski season. My not get them complete in time which could mean problems getting opened this year. I was warned of that possibility which would mean larger crowds at t-line. Now with the big snow of the past few days, it will be delayed further.
Is anywhere opening up early other than the NC resort? I heard rumors on Snowshoe.
The problem with Snowshoe is: it's hard to get there on a good day. They're expecting even more snow for the next 2 days. I'd think the roads in (say 55W) would be impassible.
we can wait for the roads to clear while they groom
I know that Hidden Valley has been reported elsewhere in this thread but here's the official word from Maggie Samole, HV's marketing assistant:
