As a hobby and part of my pathetic existence, I try to keep my mind filled with diversions in order to limit my frustrations with my daily life routines. I check certain websites and on , especially during the winter is the 7springs and HV sites nearest to me as I frequent these locations.

I have their webcams down to a science and can generally gauge how busy they are and what the conditions are like by looking at their cams.

With the heat/rain, I'm sure this is causing people to cancel trips to 7springs. Sure they may already know that this weekend is a wash, 7springs I mean, and realize that there will be many people wanting OUT of their attempts to get out of their early lodging specials.

But, they are probably getting a TON of people calling to cancel for subsequent weeks.

What better way to stop that than to put up webcam shots from , oh say 11-30. They have done this before. Someone called them out on this on their facebook page and their reply was 'technical difficulties'. Then someone stated that it would take a concerted effort to switch a live feed to a screenshot of an old feed that never changes.

You can see what I mean by checking their webcam and seeing the same 3 people on the speed lift near the streets. Compare Stowe/Tyrol with wagner and you can see what im talking about.

Now this has happened before and they quickly changed it to live feeds about 3or 4 hours later. But like soeone said on their facebook page, it seems to ONLY happen when conditions or crowds are horrible...they suddenly put up a picture of the one day last year that there was full coverage and powder all over.

Anyone else thinks this is false advertising or worse, bait/switch?

ha, a friend of mine called and they said it's because they havent setup the cameras for the day. The resort back to the previous 'saved' images when not setup for the day and would get them online

I think he felt the same as I, as he is the one that brought it to my attention due to teh disappointment of not being open this weekend as they have a scheduled event up there this weekend.

anyway - looks fixed but again, still convenient when this occurs. Day /night it normally works except when things are BAD to show onlne

Whitetail does a similar thing, expertly fixing the view just above head level of a liftline, so you can't see how crowded it is (other than all chairs being full).

Sounds like Snowshoes' reporting of their version of the weather! LOL
What are the odds of a (wide-angle) cam showing the base of the Ballhooter lift?

Very classy how Blowshoe measures their vertical from down the ridge.

Ski areas invented "spin management".

Wish Jeep had invented "spin management" before I hit the black ice after Petersburg! LOL Dealer says my Yukon has it (Stabilitrak). Hope I don't need to find out this year.

It's funny how technology has made this stuff easier to spot. I remember the days when there was a "ski report" hotline. When I instructed at Hidden Valley we had a conversion chart.

I think the guy who did the recording was named Jim, but basically the chart was something like:

If Jim said >> It meant
Granular >> Medium size ice chunks
Packed Granular >> Boiler plate
Groomed Granular >> Small ice chunks
Fresh Snow >> Snow makers had been run the previous night
Fresh Powder >> Snow was drifted on a deck somewhere

We had a very small local hill that had a tow rope and poma lift, when you called no matter what the conditions were 'marginal'

Some of my best memories as a kid were my parents waking us up when it was still dark out. Picking up the phone and calling the snow report that was played back on a cheesy system/tape.
