Vermont: Bromley, Okemo, Stratton or Killington?
December 23, 2012
Going up there soon. My base is Rutland, VT and I need something close. As far as I can tell, these are my four options (Pico, a little resort I love, is out because they don't seem to have a lot of slopes open).
Anyone been to Vermont yet this season who can comment? Or, can you comment based on experience? Keep in mind I'll probably be skiing on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Bromley is a fun mountain but they need lots of natural snow. K-mart and Stratton both have good snowmaking, but they will be crowded, besides K-mart is K-mart and Stratton is just Snowshoe on some cheap steroids. Okemo has great snowmaking and once you get a way from the base the crowds aren't too bad. Bromley and Stratton are also a long way from Rutland.
Have fun!
Okemo faces North East, on warm days snow gets soft and chewed up fast, the locals ski this early in the morning and by noon the good skiing is done. Bromely faces South, great for very cold sunny days. Stratton mostly faces north, and is my favorite with consistent snow conditions, and holds my personal record of 51,000 vertical feet in a day.......Killington is great, but could be over crowded too....
