Just so this doesn't get buried in a trip report thread some of us have been lamenting the lack of intermediate bumps at TL and some ungroomed powder runs when it snows. Vic and Tucker have suggested that Tline management might pay attention to its customers if we post on their Facebook page. A few of us have posted and I'm sure the more they get the more likely they are to pay attention. By the way, you don't have to be a customer. I'm sure they would be interested in some feedback from their Pro Staff on how this would help the teaching experience.

Maybe even get crazy like Plattekill - how about this for a promotion "POWDER DAIZE $49
(midweek Mon-Thurs non-hol)
OPEN THE DAY AFTER A STORM OF 1 FOOT+ OF SNOW!"

They are normally closed during the week but open up the whole mountain mid week ungroomed after storms. Think they would sell a few extra tickets at TLine midweek. I THINK SO!!

I agree and would love to see permanent INTERMEDIATE bump skiing at Timberline.

Looking at the number of Blue terrain on the mountain, it would be very easy (and actually more economical) to turn a small section of a given slope into bumps skiing / bump park / bump-O-rama.

I am not suggesting "closing" or "taking away" any slopes from the groom-lovers, but instead talking about sharing a single slope. 1/3 would be dedicated to bumps, and 2/3 dedicated to "normal" groomed skiable terrain. As noted by others, grooming machines would be spared a bit (more time to tend to other slopes, less time on the clock). Diesel fuel would also be saved from grooming bump runs less frequently (once a week, twice a week, or as needed). Ski school could be offering more classes.
This effort could bring more people to your resort by providing yet another amenity (and a very economical one at that). Ski school could even be "brought in" for slope selection / consultation on this very positive matter. A permanent bump run at Timberline would really be an asset.

So far, I have posted here (www.DCski.com), as well as on Timberline's official website. A personalized email was sent to the entire management team. A letter will follow. I so very much encourage people interested in bump skiing to do the same. Voicing out your wishes is the only way people will take you seriously and/or know about this need.

I also recommend sticking to the positive and subject at hand - for perhaps a more favorable outcome.

Timberline Snowsports School has had a very busy season to date. The thing that struck me was the number of mid and upper level skiers we saw taking lessons as opposed to last season. Are we good, yes we are, but I think the increased demand was in large part due to the ungroomed conditions many of these mid-level skiers were experiencing in quantity for the first time.

Interesting Jimmy. I've taken at least a dozen Telemark clinics at Tline and when they get you in your group the instructor always asks what people want to work on. There hasn't been a single time when at least one person hasn't said bumps. The problem is that it becomes quickly apparent that the technical issues they have that give them problems in the bumps are too great to overcome in one day to allow them to practice on Off the Wall or the Drop because they are too steep. So they ask to for help in the bumps but never even get to ski them (or take a run or two at the end of the day where they fall down The Drop and feel like they haven't learned anything). That has to be tough for the instructors.

The best Bump lesson I've had was when Darryl Hensley taught a clinic at Whitetail where they have a run that is wide enough and mellow enough to practice in the bumps.

Interesting.... I know that Shawn R, Darryl H and other instructors always do some sort of mogul training during Telepaloozia at 7Springs.

That event use to even have a bump race - dual moguls for pride and brag'n rights - if memory serves me right.

Powder on its way - so if you have the time, please place a stamp on that letter... you know... the one going to the owners of Timberline.

Be nice, Be fair... just let them know what you'd like to see most.
PERMANENT BUMP RUN - that's groomed only for maintenance purposes.
POWDER - that's left alone.

In case you missed it, the address is:
Timberline Resort
254 Four Seasons Drive
Davis, WV 26260

Stop looking at the snow report - Open up Word and start typing - short & sweet.

Cheers!
