I'm driving from Baltimore. Google Maps has me going either the rt 66 way and over corridor H. Or going out i-70 /68 and taking 220 south from cumberland. The roads on google maps on the first route look a little dicey after Moorefield (judging by the amount of turns). Rt 220 looks better. The Timberline website also mentions the 2nd route as an alternate way. Mileage wise both routes are pretty much the same.

Any suggestions? A lot probably depends on the weather. I've read all of the posts on corridor H and and I think that would be the way to go once it's fully open, but that isn't for years.

I take the Cumberland route you described.
Coming from Baltimore, I find Corridor H has no value until they finish the section over Mt. Storm to Davis.
JMO, YMMV.

Unless the driving conditions are really, really bad, I'd choose my route to minimize delays exiting the Washington/Baltimore area. I'd be surprised if Corridor H would make sense from Baltimore (at least getting to it via Route 66.)

Baltimore to Timberline/Canaan... go I-70 every time. While distance and road wise it is about the same, the only thing the southern route will get you is a nice fat traffic jam in DC/NoVA.

Hah! You definitely don't live near DC. (Lucky you.)
