Great day of skiing at Liberty - Great conditions
February 9, 2013
I took off early yesterday and headed up to Liberty for a couple hours of skiing and the skiing was excellent. Every trail was open and except for a bit of White Lightning, the conditions of the trails were good as well.
The snow was hard, but not ice and I was able to easy carve on the edge of my skis. Most trails were groomed, except for Lower Eastwind that had some small to medium sized bumps, Upper Strata that had big bumps to rival what you see on Off the Wall at Timberline, and Upper Eastwind had likely been groomed recently, but was starting to form some small bumps as well.
I didn't care for the bumps on Lower Eastwind as the troughs of the bumps were the one place you'd find some ice on the mountain, however, the snow was perfect for the bumps on Upper Strata, no ice anyway and easy to turn on.
The groomed runs were fast and as I said earlier, easy to carve on. This was the first day of the season that my "fat" (88mm) skis felt in place on the snow.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they get snow and not rain like we are getting in the DC area from the storm today.
You've been using your carvers?
You've been using your carvers?
The carvers have seen the most action this season and they have been great. However, I need to do a little base repair before I take them out again. I've been real happy with the Ogasakas this season.
