Conditions at Snowshoe 13 Feb
February 19, 2013
Been at Snowshoe now for a week. Conditions have been absolutely superb, including a deliciously groomed Lower Shays and virtually 100 open with only a few closed expert runs. Today it snowed all day with close to 6 inches of brand new fresh snow blanketing the entire resort. The snow guns, however, continued their activity over most of the mountain. It will be a superb weekend.
87 and sunny yesterday here in Orlando!
Lou - any inside scoop on the "ridiculous pass" Snowshoe is going to roll out on Tuesday 2/19?
They announced it on their FB page today.
Lot's of speculation that it would be a $199 unlimited season pass good for the rest of this season and all of next.
"deliciously groomed Lower Shays"
these words should never appear in a sentence together. free shays, ban the groomies !!
otherwise thanks. I was there on feb 2 and it was also snowing and very good, just no lower shays.
cheers.
Pagamony: I would agree with you. I like Lower Shays WITH and WITHOUT grooming. I wish they compromised and groomed half or something to keep everyone happy. But... It's Intrawest. Their customer base wants groomers. Tremblant, Copper, Snowshoe, Stratton, Copper....
I am kindof anti grooming myself but i do like steep groomers. Is Lower Shay wide enough to half groom?

Jimmy
Yes, although in past they had about 35 percent groomed.

By the way, long range weather looking favorable for Blue Knob outing! I will be at Shoe this long weekend with my grandkids.
If you're looking at the bunny slopes, you'll see me in the early mornings and early evenings with my Black Lab playing ball.

WOW, I have not been to SS in years. Looks like lots of things change. I agree, the bumps are what made Lower Shay's great. That is a real shame.
Lower Shays open with bumps and groomed on side

Lou
Roughly what time?
Would like to meet you. I'm here until Wed.

I'm here all week. We were at Shays and Cupp all afternoon. I am wearing a bright blue ski suit with red Blizzard Bona Fide skis and a black OSBE helmet that looks more like a motorcycle helmet with the integrated goggles. Would love to meet you too!
Today is was absolutely awesome. Both Cupp and Shays were totaly superb, with snow in the afternoon. Unfortunately, the crowds in the Ballhooter Lift began to get large in anticipation of the busiest weekend in the year.

Why would they groom the only challenging trail at SS? Were customers complaining? Did the customers get tired of skiing the 55 groomed trails? SS use to be a fun place to ski, but since they started over grooming, I stopped taking the family there. SS has some of the worst skiers/boarders around. They make the Boy Scouts at Tline look like future Olympians.
From SS's webpage "Groomers Choice - Cupp Run" Statements like this make me sick!!!

I saw that - I hope it's the 199 deal. I guess we'll have to wait until Tues.
We have a group of 20ish going down on 3/7 - 10. It may wise for most of the group to grab a 199 pass if it truly is unlimited this yr and next.
That's the scuttlebutt. We'll see how it materializes...
From the slopes:
Fantastic...all slopes open, very cold and quite windy on top and Western Territory, usual crowds. My 4 year old grandson skied Cupp Run twice yesterday!!!!
I have heard same as Lou, $199 season pass (all ages) to be announced on 19th, good for rest of this year & all of next!!! Stay tuned for fine print.

Hoping for the deal to materialize. It will be awesome. Agree with the Colonel...
Today it started at 0F at 0600. By 0800 it was -2F. It has stayed in the 0 to 3 all day. At 1600 hours now, it is 3 and dropping. I went to Silver Creek to get out of the wind.
I will be here until Wednesday.
Hoping for the deal to materialize.
I was on their site earlier and the $199 deal showed up. I added 2 of them to my shopping cart. I stopped and called a buddy about it and WHAM, they were gone!
I called central reservations and they confirmed it is a go ... but not until Tuesday.
Unless the rep was lying to me, she said it's not a rumor, it WILL BE an
UNLIMITED season pass good for the rest of this season and all of next season.
It's Tue morning, Feb. 19. I see the $199 deal. Says it's going to be there thru Feb. 28. Same pass price for all ages, unless 6 and under, or over 75, because then skiing is free.
