Massanutten midweek Feb. 20-21
February 21, 2013
Since my timeshare that we used with friends for the long Pres. Day weekend ends on Feb. 22, I came back to Massanutten on the way to the Blue Knob Gathering. Mnut had snow guns going on Paradice shortly after 7pm. Plenty cold since it was 35 when I arrived around 5pm.
Took full advantage of the lights to get in good runs on Showtime and Paradice. Both had more than enough snow to cover up the frozen stuff underneath. The Mnut ski team was having their practice. Had gate training set up on Diamond Jim. After the kids left, there were adults doing race training.
Going to do the $30 2-hour Senior Clinic again on Thu afternoon. Did one last Sunday during the frigid temps. That was a private since no one else showed up. Mostly was following the instructor doing what he was doing after a brief talk about what we would do that run. Neither of us wanted to stop and discuss anything because it was so cold. High was 21 that day. Snow was nice on MAKattack though. Also kept the crowds relatively thin for a holiday weekend.
Turns out that there are several special events at Mnut this weekend, Feb. 23-24. Sat night there is a terrain park competition between three local colleges, JMU, UVA, VT. The SARA race U15-21 championships are Sat & Sun mornings until 1:30pm on Diamond Jim. Sunday there is a race for adaptive skiers called the Independence Cup.
Glad the weather is cold enough for plenty of snowmaking before the weekend.
