Mountain Collective pass adds 3 for 2013-14
November 20, 2013
The Mountain Collective pass added a few places for 2013-14. $349 for 2 days at each resort plus 50% off additional days, with no blackout dates. The list:
Utah: Alta, Snowbird*
BC: Whistler*
CA: Mammoth*
Tahoe: Squaw, Alpine Meadows
CO: Aspen/Snowmass
WY: Jackson Hole
* new for 2013-14
Guess it was considered a success.
One trip to SLC means 4 days in LCC, add another trip to Tahoe for another 4 days. 349/8 = $43.63 plus 50% off any other days at those places on the same trip. Food for thought . . .
Might still be a good deal for some, but the way I read it is you get two days total in LCC and two days total at Alpine Meadows/Squaw. Two days per resort, not per mountain. Guess Alta and Snowbird are counted as one resort. Of course the Jackson Hole lift ticket was $105 at the window this year, so for two western trips or an epic road trip it makes some sense. Hadn't heard of this before- thanks for the post.
For only $349 USD, The Mountain Collective' Pass includes two days of skiing or riding at each of the six destinations (AltaSnowbird, Aspen/Snowmass, Jackson Hole, Mammoth Mountain, Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows and Whistler Blackcomb), plus a 50 percent discount on all additional days with no blackout dates.
I think ridenski is correct. Alta/Snowbird count as one mountain (only 2 free passes for either/or), same as Squallywood/AM. So the referenced hypothetical 2 times 4-day trips would cost $349 + 37.50 + 37.50 + 50 + 50 = 524/8 = 65.50 per day, plus 50% off additional tickets and 25% off lodging.
Yep, Alta/Snowbird seem to count as one "destination". The FAQs on the Mountain Collective website are pretty good. They are actually answering actual questions as they come up.
I looked at the Alta lodging offering details as a reference. Three lodges (Snowpine, Peruvian, Goldminer's) are participating in assorted ways. Discounts on lodging are UP TO 25%, but it really depends on the location.
The 50% deal for additional days really adds up for someone who can take a longer trip even if they only go to one destination, especially since there are no blackout dates.
There is a status bar on the website that started out at IN STOCK and is now in the middle of LIMITED SUPPLY. Last category is NEARLY SOLD OUT.
I thought about the MCP for the two week trip Vince and I took in early January, but the distances between resorts exceeded even my sadistic road warrior abilities to best capitalize upon. A retired person like Denis might be a candidate, but he may find better deals/flexibility via "senior" tickets. Believe he tried something similar with the reciprocal aspects of the Monarch Ski Area season pass a couple years ago. If you don't limit yourself to the two "free days" of the MCP and accept the 50% discount for additional days then it may ultimately save over the expense of traveling to all participating resorts just to collect the "free" tickets. One thing you can not dismiss about this deal is the inclusion of some of the highest quality ski terrain in North America.
I went for it. Mostly because I know I'll be at Alta for enough days to do better than break even because of the 50% additional days. Turns out that the two included days get you an Alta/Bird ticket. For additional days, have to choose one or the other. Although I bet it will be possible to pay to upgrade.
Seems to make sense for anyone who is sure about doing either one longer stay or two stays in different places of at least 4 days each.
Anyone who wants to spend a week at JH should read the details of the lodging offer. Could get 25% off lodging.
They clarified the situation for Alta/Snowbird in the online FAQ. Guess I may be skiing Snowbird more in 2014.

https://themountaincollective.zendesk.com/entries/23340111-Which-AltaSnowbird-ticket-do-I-get-Q) Which AltaSnowbird ticket do I get?
A) The free and 50% off tickets at AltaSnowbird will both be the AltaSnowbird Interconnect ticket each day, which allow you to ski at both resorts all day long. Note: snowboarding is not allowed at Alta.
I ran the math and decided to purchase the pass.
We need to lobby for Jackson Hole as next year's Gathering! (Which even before I heard of the deal I thought was the most likely candidate.)

Sounds good to me! JH and Mammoth are the two places that I have my eye on to check out for the first time now that I have the MCP.
Mammoth and Tahoe- that's a doable road trip where you could use 4 passes in a 1-week trip. The drive between the two areas is beautiful and pretty easy the few times I've done it. MIL has a condo at Mammoth, and we've flown to Reno a couple of times to get there. About 3 hours from Reno to Mammoth Lakes. Somewhere on DC Ski there's a nice TR about Mammoth. Great area that's empty during the week.

Have considered that as well. Does she rent out the condo?
She does indeed; they use one of the local realty firms to manage it. Can't remember the one they use, but Mammoth Lakes is full of them. Hers is a short walk to the Eagle Express lift. That location is great for easy access to the mountain and away from town. Other choices would get you closer to restaurants/nightlife/shopping (such as there is). I'll PM you details when I get them.

Never, never attempt the drive between Tahoe and Mammoth in snow or under threat of snow. I did it once.
Yep. We've only done it in clear weather. In those conditions it's a great drive, but I'm sure it can go bad in a hurry during a storm.
MCP sales start again on August 13. $10 more for adults, so $379. New option for kids 12 and under for $239.
Also announced a partnership with Protect Our Winters (POW).

I'll be skiing at JH Jan. 21-24, driving up from SLC on Jan. 20 then driving to Eden on Jan. 25 for DIva Week West at Snowbasin/PowMow. Probably have an extra bed at the JH condo. Only my ski buddies Bill and Jason so far.
Still time to get an MCP. Status bar has sat on NEARLY SOLD OUT for a while.
