Last night I went to the annual ski patrol fundraiser, bought $20 worth of raffle tickets, but didn't win the skis. They were beautiful; fat, made by a small company in town. The top skins displayed the ski patrol cross and said "Big Mountain". Then, one ski said You Fall, the other, We Haul. But by supporting NSP, maybe I put some good karma in the bank. It began snowing this morning, light but steady. I waited until noon, doing laundry in the morning. About 2" had fallen over old loud nasty frozen coral. At the trail edges it had in places accumulated a bit deeper and one could enjoy a half dozen silent silky turns. However the fog was thick enough that I couldn't see any definition nor where the snow was untracked and where it was scraped off. Perhaps it will get a bit deeper tonight; another 4" would do nicely. But, it is going to warm steadily for the next 48 hours, with snow line rising to 7000'.

The top of Big Mountain is 6800'. However the coming weekend is supposed to see a strong cold front with snow
line dropping to <3000'. To the south it is warmer and they missed this precip. I'll be staying here at least through
the weekend.

Did you bring your passport? GoogleMaps has you 2 hours from Fernie, BC, where it looks like they got your 6" of freshies last night.

I have my passport. Whitefish is reporting 4" fresh. The whole northwest is undergoing this big warm up. I don't think it makes sense to go anywhere else until the warmth, rain, and next cold front have passed. Then I'll see how it shakes out. There is also the question of resort self reporting. Yesterday's whitefish report was quite a bit different than what I actually found. Fernie is no higher than here. It is a great place that I have skied before.

I thought Canadians were always trustworthy... We are enjoying your travel reports even when the powder is firmer or more viscous than desired. I passed on a trip to Whitewater in Nelson, BC this week- ever make it there? Looks like the Timberline of BC from the website.

Today was quite good, far exceeding my expectations. I believe it was warm enough overnight for the 4" of new snow to soften and bond to the underlying coral. I arrived at 9:30 to 38 deg. At the base. The upper mountain was socked in with dense fog. There are orange fog balls every 50 yards or so but visibility wasn't nearly good enough to see from one to another. The locals are unfazed by this and charge ahead. I just tried to keep a couple of test dummies in view. The powder up there was good. Below the fog line it started buttery, changing to chewy by noon. I like chewy. Seems to magnify the ability to feel the forces of physics on skis and body, a feeling I like. I quit after 3 hrs., to save the legs. Big Mtn at Whitefish is huge and I've seen great terrain. Before leaving I'd like to see it all in sunlight, preferably coated in new powder.
