August 8 Colorado Snow
August 10, 2013
Decided to spend a few days in Colorado to get away from the heat. Also decided to drive to the top of Mt. Evans (the highest road in North America at 14,260 feet) as it had been over a decade since we last made the drive
It was a uniquely European type experience as we were looking down at clouds. It was sunny on top.
Anyway, on the way down we ran into one heck of a snowstorm, and ended up driving down the mountain thru about 2 inches of fresh -- now that's the way to get away from the heat. We ended up with about half a foot of heavy snow on the hood of the car by the time we drove out of the snow.
The interesting part of the experience was that it was not snowing at 14,260 feet, but it was snowing between about 10,000 feet and 13,000 feet.
We were quite a sight as we drove west on I-70 wearing our white badge of courage. I suspect that more than one driver that saw us said -- "where in the heck have THEY been."
Thanks Bob. That report put a smile on my face.
Glad that I could help get you into the spirit, Jim.
It was 34 degrees at 9600 feet in Breckenridge this morning at 7 am, and there was a dusting of fresh snow at the top of Peak 10.
