It is with some emotion that I share the news with my real and virtual friends here at DCSki that my dad, CDR Edward F. (Ned) Kenney, passed away yesterday at age 94. He had a good long life, but it was a rough last six months medically for him so we're relieved he is now at peace.
My dad was a graduate of the US Naval Academy class of 1943 and had retired from a 26 Navy career before he ever learned how to ski at age 49. But then he and my mom got the ski bug in a big way for 25+ yrs; season passes, second home in the mtns, ski trips to Tahoe and New England, etc. He was the dynamo that enabled me and my three siblings to become avid skiers. He was still a vital, cogent, and beloved patriarch of his extended family at age 94 and enjoyed hearing about our latter day ski adventures. Now he's moved on to the really high altitude terrain and I hear the powder's always fresh in heaven.

He sounds like he was great father Jim and that he lived a full and rich life. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts.

My deepest sympathies Jim. Thanks for sharing those great memories and pictures.
Jim,
I am on a Baltic Sea cruise and internet is really ex,
pensive so I will keep this short.
So sorry to hear about your Dad passing. I feel like I knew him through you since you, I suspect, have many of his traits. You are a lucky man with a wonderful family!
Despite his age and suffering I know the hurt and loneliness you are now feeling. I will keep your family in my prayers.
God Bless,
Morgan aka The Colonel
By the way, who is the fellow to the right in the picture at Big Meadows...standing next to your dad?!
Sounds like your dad was and is awesome.
No one really dies.
Peace out.
Jim, I have always enjoyed your family stories and photos through the years, and I appreciate that you shared this news with us. This winter will be an opportunity to recall those memories even more. Bless you all, Dave
He sounds like quite a guy. Wish I had known him. May he rest in peace and may you and your family be comforted by your wonderful memories.
My deepest and sincere condolences to you and your family. So strange, I was thinking of you and your dad yesterday while admiring the Mad River Glen glass Marcus finally remembered to bring over. It must of been your dad's way of checking up on your friends.
Jim, sorry to hear of your loss. Sounds like you had a great father who introduced you to a great sport.
We'll keep him and you in our prayers.

Jim,
Very sorry to hear this. My condolences to your entire family.
Your Dad lived a special life.
The wind will always be on his back, his sails will always be trimmed, and may God's sun shine upon him on his journey to eternity. Celebrate his wonderful life and the happy memories, which you seem to have done with these wonderful pictures. Anchors Aweigh to a fellow veteran.
JimK - I have never met you in person, but you are the classiest guy posting on this forum. I would say that this must be the result of a fine up bringing. Your father must have been fine man. And on top of that he loved to ski and shared that love of skiing with his family. And to live until the wise age of 94, what a great gift. My father passed at the age of 69 in 1985...and unfortunately, he never skied. He lives on my minds eye.
To you and your family, my heart felt sympathy

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
God bless,
JimK
our thoughts and prayers go out to your family and for your father.
A life well lived and, judging from the photos, a family well loved.
Sorry to hear that the last months were tough for your dad, Jim. Prayers for him and for all he knew and loved. Those pictures, your tribute, and the family bonds so evident in reports from you and Vince are all a tribute to the legacy created by your parents.

oh Jim -- i am so sorry. i only saw this now. what lovely images you posted. the loss of a father is truly difficult, loosing perhaps the rudder that helped to steer you. i know you will miss him and in a quiet moment miss sharing all the things you encounter in your own life. think of him and he will know.
