This past weekend, I settled on the sale of my condo at Snowshoe WV. As many of you are aware, since I purchased my condo at Snowshoe in 1999, three months after joining the DCSki website (I show as member #4, so it seems like ages ago), I've stated that my dream and life goal is to someday return to New England. And now I am in a position to accomplish that goal. For many reasons.
Later next month, we will be closing on the purchase of a beautiful home in the historic and artistic town of New London, NH, within walking distance from Lake Sunapee and a stone's throw away from Mount Sunapee NH, much closer to my Connecticut family than Northern Vermont, but close enough to the rest of New England that we will be able to enjoy both Winter and Summer activities. We are also looking to make a permanent move to this idyllic spot in the near future.
My connections with the Mid Atlantic ski scene, my future work in non-profit and political activities, and the many friends we've made over the years in the Mid Atlantic, augur that we will stay well connected to the DC area. But it is a wonderful change I've been able to make in my life. The wonderful times in Canaan Valley, Timberline, Snowshoe, Wisp, and so many other areas, will be with me for the rest of my life. And I'll be able to report on Mount Sunapee, Okemo, Stratton, Magic, KTon, Sugarbush, MRG, Stowe, Attitash, Cranmore, and so many others. And wonderful hiking in the Presidentials, Kearsarge, Monadnock, Acadia and others. And awesome kayaking in Sunapee, Winnipesaukee ,Memphremagog, and Mooselookmeguntic (try pronouncing that one....)
Those who know me personally, are very well aware that one of my joys is to have a house full of guests and bring my Cuban cooking wherever I go. Our new home is three times the size of the Snowshoe condo, so we'll have room for a platoon. So come on over.
I remember many Snows ago you spoke of your dream to move back to New England.I suggested NH but you seemed to have your heart set on the Stowe area...You made the best Choice IMO...Many Winter and Summer choices...Lakes and the coast with the Seafood and seafaring culture.
Remember to buy a T-Shirt B-fore you leave Snowshoe (your Island in the Sky)...u know..Been there..Done that..Got the T-shirt!
Best of luck Lou with your version of living the dream.
Congrats. We just bought a condo at Snowshoe, so we're on the 'transition' that you did years back. Looking forward to hearing about your time up in New England.
I have not met you in person, but you and I have been on the same side of the political fence when those issues have come up. I envy you and wish you all the best during your retirement years. Perhaps you can expand DCSKI's reach to Mt. Sunapee.
Congratulations. I love the lakes country of central NH. It's a great central location for all kinds of New England recreation. Even the sea coast is within an hour or two. I spent 3 HS summers at a caddie camp on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Congrats on your transition. Those of us remaining at Snowshoe have lost a good steward of the resort.
Good luck and enjoy.
Yeah Mr. Fish... I DO remember our conversation. And yes, after considering all the options, you were AND are right. I love Stowe, but for many reasons, we chose more Southern the snow belt. Some of the other considerations: 35 minutes from Manchester IAP, 1.5 hours from Logan IAP, Claremont Amtrak Station, only 3 hours from my family in CT, closer to so many otyher ski areas, a wonderful lake literally next door,
and (it pains me to say this as a liberal) a more favorable tax structure for retirees... :-)
Very happy for you, Lou.
As a New England transplant to the Shenandoah Valley, my strongest ties are still to the Northeast. Glad you put it all together to head up to NH.
Enjoy,
Woody
Nice move, enjoy the change.
Lou,
We just missed meeting up several times at The Shoe, now my big loss.
Your honest reports from WV will be sorely missed. I am envious of your move and the great times you will be having in NH!
Take care my DCSki friend, may your tracks always be parallel. Perhaps our tracks will cross somewhere, I certainly hope so.
Looking forward to your posts from the northlands and elsewhere. And ocassionally try to make it down to our backyard for a DCSki gathering.

Lou, Lou,
Congratulations to you.
Greta and I just got back from a week in Vermont and New Hampshire. New Hampshire is almost as beautiful as West Virginia. Just kidding (a little), it reminds me of WV only with lots of water. Good luck and keep in touch.

Yeh, I was seriously impressed with NH's brand of waterways/coastline awesome, particularly the Piscataqua -Great Bay area.
Good luck and enjoy, Lou. I've always enjoyed our conversations on DCSki and look forward to more and those reports of the NH mountains. I'll be following my dreams very soon as well. Kim AKA G6
