...I know everyone around here is hoping that Canaan Valley Resort will make use of the snowmaking improvements this season...last season they didn't really seem to be to interested in using their new equipment...hopefully this year they will use their new guns/snowmaking infrastructure as much as possible and as early as possible---maybe even open up earlier than January this season...

My understanding is that improved snowmaking system at CV not fully operational last year, supposed to be good-to-go this year, plus new lodge will be open!

Blue Knob reported that they made improvements to their snowmaking system and several lifts. I also hear that they are upgrading the food service in the base lodge.

Whitetail also has announced some improvements to their slopes and snowmaking. Not sure if it will help if we have another winter like the last two. They had minimal slopes open until well into January.

My understanding of BK's snowmaking problem was that their pond is too small.

...was over there several times early/mid last season...and even though they only had less than half the mountain open, their new guns (the six nice yellow babys) were just sitting around in the tubeing hill parking lot not being used...then on one trip over they finally pulled one over to the ski slopes but they didn't seem to know how to use them---making super wet snow/glue and just pointing them at the ground...new improvements only are good if they are put to use properly...hope that happens this year...heard yesterday that the lodge might be done in October...if the rumors of the room rates pricing is true then they are going to have to step up there snowmaking and present a good product if they are going to fill them---they are going to have to step up their customer service game as well because people paying those rates aren't going to be happy with the past level over there...

Any resorts with new terrain/trails? Unrelated but, I seen Whiteface is adding new double black diamond glades!

I keep hearing that Guest Services is getting the boot from CV but from what I can tell it has not happened yet.

That in itself would be an improvement. insert rolly eyes

Can we shoot skeet from the chair lift this year? That would be kewl.

I just hope they put better cups out for the water. Those flimsy plastic ones are always breaking...

With Scott busy turning out the new improved DCSki, the rest of us need to work our contacts and find out what is new for this season in the Mid-A. And I am not talking about 7Sprngs, HV or Laurel Mt.
So far we have heard of:
BK: Improved snowmaking and replacement of broken chair.
WT: new expert glades (w a making) an trail expansion.
CV: Renovated hotel ready in 0ct? Completion of Improved snowmaking!

I am sure the other Mid-A resorts are not resting on their laurels, With swaps and sales starting soon, there must be news out there!

Easy there... I don't think Whitetail is adding gladed territory. Earlier poster in this thread said WHITEFACE. As in Northern NY host of the Winter Olympics. One of the very few, if only, Eastern ski areas with valid avalanche concerns.

Oh, the internet....

I never thought I would see Whitetail and glades together in the same post without "H*ll no" somewhere in the post. That told me it had to be a mistake.

Wisp is another reporting expansion by glading.

Word has it that Cherry bowl will once again become an official glade run. Supposive glading under way this fall. I'll check this weekend see if there's any truth to it. If not at least there will be zip-lining cry

don't know. That's why I'm going to be asking around. This was mentioned earlier last spring and again over the summer. I want to find out if it's real or just another rumor. although you have to admit, the trees they cleared out last fall made a big difference.

They cleared out trees in CB last fall? I didn't notice any new lines last winter. If anything, I noticed a lot of debris from Sandy, and a lot of saplings taking over some of the lower sections.

I think for most skier/riders, glading is a fun and meditative chore because you see the growing fruits of your labor while you are doing it, knowing you will be really enjoying the fruit soon. And it's so easy...as simple as, "hey look at that tiny little cluster of scrappy trees...if we get rid of that it opens up this sweet line". Last fall I would take the doggie out to run around the mtn after work every day till dark while I nip nip nipped the damn pesky beech whippers, creating new little lines like a little continuous project.
But trust me, just a handful of people with decent loppers and some beers can do some serious clearing in a day. (and a few little handsaws maybe) And at tline or wg, nobody will ever question you wandering in the woods clearing lines. (unless you are on federal property..)

Maybe there should be a dcski gathering in the cherry bowl this fall.

Ski School meeting weekend? I think it's the last weekend in October?

I was talking to Jimmy about this very same subject two weekends ago.
