Completely spur of the moment for no reason except we haven't done it for a while.

Lets say 5 PM onward. It is probably easier to secure a good size table at that time. Let me know by private message if you can make it and I'll make a reservation. If you can't make it, we'll raise a glass to you anyway.
Will try to make. Could be a little late, coming in from a visit to the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Via unprivate and private message - Ya, I'm in.
Bring trail maps to places you've skied recently. Esp Denis and MT areas. I'll do the same.
I don't think I have MT trail maps; I can get them online. I can bring ipad with pics and a very detailed road map of MT.
I would like to go but too little notice. Those that attend should pick another time for a preseason GTG. I enjoyed the stay at JohnL's a few years back but I could schedule a visit with in-laws in the future if a Saturday GTG is planned.
I do hope that this little spur of the moment gathering will be taken as just that, and that there will be something bigger and more organized later. The spur is that my wife is out of town this weekend so I don't have my partner to hang out with. Also I am a better skier than an organizer.
Wish I could join in your discussion on MT skiing..JohnL you better do Big Sky justice!!! Don't forget how awesome Bear's Lair is!

I'll need to bring a trail map just to remember all the names... Stump Farm I'll never forget.
Hopefully I'll have time to load a bunch of Timberline and Montana pictures onto my iPad. Got a classic of the three stooges from Timberline enjoying some apres pounders.

Not looking great for me to host a pre-season kickoff this fall. If it happens, it will likely be spur of the moment around Halloween or so. The nursery behind me will be redeveloped into a housing complex starting any time now; they'll be cutting down all the buffering trees behind my yard. I'll be planting 7 or so trees for buffering/shade, putting up fencing and renovating/regrading the large grass area in my back yard. Even though by code it shouldn't happen, I'm very worried about additional run-off hitting my property. Less permeable surface above my property.
Wish I could, BUT...
Appreciate the toast! Looking forward to a fantastic cold, snowy and skiing filled winter.
The Colonel
Unfortunately I won't be able to make it as my wife and I attending an event all weekend. Hopefully I get to see you all on the slopes this season.
We're on. 5 PM Mad Fox Brewing Co. Falls Church. I'll be wearing a maroon White Grass baseball cap.
I've loaded a bunch of ski pictures onto my iPad which I'll bring tonight. Montana, West Virginia and some other random pix. Plus some incriminating shot ski photos. I may be able to retire on those....
Woah! Found some pix of a 2007 trip to Wolf Creek that I took with Roger Z. and some of his crew. Old School DCSki.
Plus some incriminating shot ski photos. I may be able to retire on those....
Haha...I think it's already been shared somewhere on the interwebs...the real question is, do you have a photo of the randoms who decided to join our shot ski party in the base area?

Actually, I was talking about a different shot ski effort. At Casa de JohnL.
i guess we could have a floating substance-abuse party on my boat (sans me - i'm the cap'in i need to navigate) and cruise the Potomac and cook-eat a lot of food and swim but i can take only 8 guest so it is all up to you!!!!!
E-
i was gonna ask tucker if he wanted to make a road trip for this, but he was too busy working on his advancement for powder days
...yep, work 7 days a week for 8 months out of the year,,, then put the bags down and ride 7 days a week for the winter 4...
Based on the pictures from his iPad, Denis was not exaggerating about the terrain and snow he found in the smaller areas of Montana last winter.
Might have been nicer than the snow/terrain at Big Sky.
(Waiting for a retort from a MT local who may differ.)

Maybe you just had a bad guide at Big Sky! haha. Without a doubt there is terrain that's just as great as Big Sky all around Montana, and more snowfall too! Here's where Big Sky wins: they have all the best all in one place, with really fast lifts, and no lift lines (which is also the case everywhere in MT, and as long as cattle don't learn to ski, it should stay that way
). And it doesn't hurt that it's 45 minutes from my door step

Stop your bragging, Danielle.

Haha sorry Kim...honestly I'm probably just as jealous of your winters as you are of mine!!! Miss all the clowns.
