I'll ditto the Colonel's guess. Maybe enough for first turns on Sunday? .....naw
I'll go with oct. 26. Wishful thinking perhaps but I like to make the season's first turns in Oct. at Whitegrass, and have managed it in better than half of the last 20 years.
I'll go with Oct 23rd and it will be 6+". If you're going to dream, dream big:-)
You might see some flurries on your pick JK..But i did my homework....here is a weather map for 2 pm the 24th...

Anyone can play meteorologist on Facebook and DCSKI. Build a page with a credible-sounding name, post.on a blog..posts some weather maps, get some friends and family to “like” it, and you’re off and running.
In the last few years, the number of Facebook weather pages has exploded, many maintained by curators without clear meteorological credentials. Unfortunately this has led to misleading or flat-out inaccurate information spreading virally, especially around high-interest weather events, like winter storms (or possible winter storms).
For example, the page “Mid-Atlantic Storm Watch” posted an update on Tuesday (October 15) headlined “*Possible winter storm October 24th??!!“, then adding the storm “might become something of historic proportions.” This post has been shared over 8,000 times!
Oct 26th. I'm only saying that day because I should be in the Valley to see it!
Passing this email along from ole Bob Lefler:
Your fearless Canaan Weatherman is out of his summer hibernation and gearing up for SNOW in the WV high country! On that note, I am in disagreement with current public forecasts calling for a mixture of snow-and-rain showers later this week in the Canaan Valley and surrounding WV high country.
I even see the possibility of light rain tonight (Sunday morning) ending as wet snow showers above 3,500 feet elevation. More importantly in the mid range, numerical forecast models continue to advertise an unusually cold pattern developing over the eastern U.S. this mid-week and lasting into early of the following week. During that time, especially from Wednesday through Monday, periods of cold, unstable NW flow could produce upslope snow and snow showers over the Allegheny high country that could bring accumulating snowfall to elevations above 3,000 feet and a higher risk above 4,000 feet in the back country. Hikers and recreation enthusiasts (including leaf peepers who will find these high forests bare from mid-October on) should carefully monitor conditions before venturing into the highest elevations as below freezing temperatures and brisk NW winds will create blowing and drifting snow if the precipitation materializes as I expect.
While this is not unusually early for snow by any means at higher elevations, the length of the cold snap does appear at this time to be noteworthy for this early in the season. I recommend staying tuned to National Weather Service forecast updates as this situation develops as I believe they may modify current projections if the models continue on the same track they suggest now.
Your Fearless Canaan Weatherman

Do we have enough snowfall to claim the jackpot??? I'll take a bottle of ULLR schnapps please:-)
winner, winner chicken dinner...or a bottle of schnapps..
You have to let the sun go down JK..then you will probably..accumulate ulllr awards..got till midnite to get r done...
I will claim the 1st winter morning postcard award....a fith of some cheap kentucky "blended" bourbon
Tucker gets 3rd place...a dollar general scarf (boarder friendly)..or maybe 2 pabst at TL pub..
Looking at the webcams its interesting to see the difference that elevation plays...4800' has had snow all day with the ground covered most of the time..3960' above TL, u see some times white..sometimes not...and now at 430pm one can see a snow storm with ground getting white fast at the bottom of the lifts at Canaan..but its still just wet at TL (canaans main lifts are a 100 feet or so higher than at TL)...wont be long where the snow level drops down to 2500 and lower...let it SNOW!!
Snowshoe Web Cam Still Image Version. I just read they expect 2 - 4" Wed night into Thu

Fishnski, I do not feel your awards are quite fair, while I do think anyone would agree that it is more than appropriate to give out booze for prizes, Jim has been able to name his own prize (a bottle of schnapps), and you have also been able to award yourself a kentucky bourbon(I would recommend the bullet), if I get online can I trade my scarf in for a six pack of pabst---no one really buys scarfs over the counter anymore anyway.
The Tucker ;)

I like how they pulled a snow maker and some tubing out of the shed for the webcam.

Not sure what their plan is but according to SS's pics and posts on Facebook, the guns are blazing on 3 trails right now.
Did teh Tslime' get the snowmaking water leaks fixed yet or are they waiting for better weather?
Dave Lesher's local snowfall page is reporting 6 inches of snow!
