Check out ChateAu Après Lodge...within walking distance of Park City base,

Certainly not fancy, but reasonably priced.  Also Yarrow Hotel, check on hotel.com or booking.com.

I guess the cheapest place that is *in* PC is the Best Western  down in Kimbal Junction

6560 N Landmark Drive,
Park City,  UT,  84098,  United States
Phone: 435/649-7300

Nice thing is this is right across the street from the Bus Stop  for the free bus and the Kibmbal Junction/Tanger Outlet mall. There is a Ruby Tuesday there too.

Of course, if you are going to be out there and done before Jan 15 2014 then my place would be the cheapest ;-)

What's your definition of cheap?

We got what we felt was a great deal off VRBO in March of 2011.  $300 a night for a 4 bedroom condo that slept 9.  We split it across two famiilies, so effectively paid $150 a night all in.

Here's the listing if anyone is interested: http://www.vrbo.com/331369

We thought it was a great condo.  Short walk to the lift, well furnished, hot tub, etc.

Bag the Park City idea and stay in Salt Lake City: 40 minutes drive to PCMR, and about the same distance to the Cottonwoods. I have been staying in Ogden for the past three years because I generally ski Snowbasin, and like the restaurants and vibe on 25th Street. Ogden has all the services that Huntsville lacks.

PS There are also good public transit options from SLC and Ogden to certain ski areas. On snow days this year I plan to leave the driving to someone else and bus it to the basin.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and especially to Crush.  Looks like Chateau Apres is a the best option.  It should let my non-skier wife shop to her hearts content...hmm maybe I need to rethink that!
