WHOOP WHOOP!
This is your autromated powder maxification satifaction pow boner alert. Please get in your car and drive to the deepest snow.
That is all.
Im not sure what to do...
mid day snow - tuesday. Many kids still have off tomorrow. With a constant snow conditions would be pretty fun even tracked out. Now Weds, it will be just groomed powder. If they leave it ungroomed, it will be all tracked out and thats just not my liking.
I think tomorrow is the day to go for Western PA. Show up early , pace yourself and ski through the long day to enjoy the most of it.
I already called in a lung last week to take my son skiing. Unless they screw up this forecast and the majority of the snow isnt going to land until tomorrow night, then I'm most likely going to miss this :(
If you cannot get to resort tonight you might want to stay off mountain roads tomorrow! WV has issued a hazzardous Driving Warning for Tues and recommends no travel unless emergency! Folks here at Snowshoe recommend staying off roads (assuming forecast holds for 8+/- inches) until snow begins to let up and WV DOT gets roads plowed. I know, I KNOW, it is awful I just might be snowed in here at top of Snowshoe tomorrow.
in all seriousness WV recommending you carry an emergency kit with flashlight, food, water, blankets, etc. if you must venture on the roads tomorrow!!!! BE SAFE!

Colonel, Congratulations for being in the right place at the right time. I left the right place yesterday about 3:00pm.
Hello DCSKI!
As my handle implies I do enjoy a POWDAY and I figured what better day to post in a thread than on a POWDAY. I am probably heading up to Whitetail to get in some of that super fine powder.
I have some time available Wednesday, but The Colonel's post (and what I see outside my window here in the northern Shenandoah Valley) make me wonder whether I can get to Wisp, BK, Wintergreen or even Whitetail or Liberty tomorrow. The ol' Subaru Forester has been great so far, but ...
Please keep posting those road and ski-area-access updates! Thanks.

I did not try to get home from Snowshoe Tues as planned, will probably try Wed morning, if car will start and roads not too drifted over. Low Wed AM supposed to be negative 11 degrees, with wind chills of negative 33. Wednesday high around O with windchill negative 37. I skied about ten runs Tues afternoon as what appears to be nearly a foot of snow fell. Slopes were quite choppy as the snow was pushed around over a hard base. Tough on my out of shape 73 year old legs and very tiring overall. Thought about demo of shorter skis in AM, but while the slopes should be awesome, I am not sure I want to go out in the forecasted frigid temps and winds. What am I saying..no way I am going skiing in the morning! Several folks arrived late Tues night to ski Wed, most unaware of anticipated cold!??
Even with four wheel drive, tomorrow's trip back to NoVA will be dicey.
Everybody stay safe!!!

Went up to Whitetail last night to check out the new snow or should I say new snow piles. Great soft bumps everywhere on the mountain but unfortunitely that was between hard pack troughs from the usual high number of novice boarders plowing down the trail. Found some good snow on the sides of most trails. Today through this weekend should be some of the best conditions in the past few years especially since it appears they plan to blow snow at night.
The roads getitng there were suprisingly good until of course Blairs Valley Road... I cannot figure out why the PA DOH does not get out and plow that road during storms...
Thanks for your report on WT's Tuesday night conditions, powday.
I skied WT today (Wednesday) and found Blair's Valley Road (southern approach from Clear Spring, MD) quite clear. Cold start but great skiing except Farside and Limelight -- softish bumps with icy troughs between. The snow day and college Wednesday special brought out a good-sized crowd, esp. for a weekday. Only a 2 minute wait (max) in lines, though.

They need a "Big Johnson Snowboard or Big Johnson Ski Pole T Shirt.
Actually, I can't believe there is not one already .... or at least not one I can find. Hell, they are missing an entire winter sports market.
PowBoner alert for Sunday. Where's everyone skiing?
Where's DCSki's Fearful Weatherman been? On MPC digging out his statue perhaps?
See ya at Timberline tomorrow. I should be there bright and early. Wearing bright orange coat with black pants and a gray helmet.
Those need a nice groomer. Riding a board that's just horrible to me. Even when I skied I hated them. EH maybe a few here and there on the board when they are made of powder is fun...
speaking of powder, I didnt get to hit any this weekend at 7s. All tracked out and on Saturday the fresh stuff was just barely enough to cover the weeds. I got move along, switch an edge and nailed a stump backside....slammed backward onto my head and heard crunching sounds from my neck. 7s says they got 18" since last monday...i'm not buying it. I'd say 10" tops
