(mentioned on a previous thread) Yesterday, at blue knob most of the glades were closed anyways I snuck under the rope and rode them a ski partoler must have spotted me. He waited on the top of the lift (the only one running) and clipped my ticket. Still had a good day regardless. Just was wondering if anyone else has stories like this?
One other time I was kicked out at 7springs I was repeadedly jumping the fence to get into the one terrain park (the streets...becuase the only was up is to hike). Anyways I was kicked out. Now that I am an employee at 7spring I would never do that. Have to be on my best behavior pretty much all the time because I don't want to reflect bad as an empoyee.
But, in general I think if you dumb enough to ride on closed trails the scratched base from rocks should be punishment enough! ha
I guess it goes into the category of "lessons learned".
I had a few run-ins with the "law" at Blue Knob over the years when I skied there a great deal in the '70s and 80s, but the only time I got my ticket clipped was about 20 years ago at Timberline, WV for poaching a closed lift line that looked too good to resist. It was the afternoon of the first day of a two day ticket :-o The patroller was nice enough to tell me that if I went to the ticket window at the end of the day they would give it back to me to use the second day. I only lost a couple hours of ski time. I usually advocate total compliance with ski patrol guidelines. I was a 40 yr old at the time and it was kind of embarrassing when my family and friends found out the parental role model got clipped. When you ski out west it really deepens your appreciation for ski patrollers. They literally risk their lives on a regular basis around avalanches, precarious lift structures/towers, cliffs and other huge terrain features just so you can goof around in the snow for a day.
yeah lots of times. i got kicked out of whitetail twice for "making big tuns" , Liberty for "slaloming kids" ( i was simply sticking to my line and the kids were factored into the plan), and even got busted at The Canyons on Chicane for making "big fast turns" with no one on the run except two other people.
i generally ignore this because "they" haven't seen many good skiers enjoying themselves. i'll never forget some "tourist" at Canyons that admonished me for "skiing out of control" when in fact i was simply skiing on Deamscape at about 40 mph and getting some air in between my turns off the little ridges here and there - my skiing companion was going to tell the guy off but i toldher not to waste her time as we watched him ski away making wedge turns.
you'll find lots of 'cops' out there - i like to f'k with them and pretend i dont'speak English (eeeeey aam suuuury eeet villl neeevr happpon aagaeeen) and then take another one just like that run. lol
that being said - ducking ropes i take seriously and in general out west i refrain rom doing so for good reason (most of the time) - the reasons are quite real and so is the penalty (you'll be arrested and might be detained in jail for a small amount of time for tresspassing) - but in the mid-A's well ... sorry i have to laugh (quite loudly actually).
