It looks like (knock on wood) that we may have some nice spring-like skiing for the Dcski gathering at TL on Saturday and Sunday (keeping fingers crossed)...how much rain is expected this Thursday and Friday? NWS is currently saying a quarter to a half inch on Thursday night and then more rain on Friday before noon.
Let's hope it gets warm enough during the day on Saturday and Sunday to soften up the snow. If so, bumps could be nice. (Sunday is now looking near freezing as the cold front comes through.)
Hate to say it, but I seriously doubt the trees will be skiable this weeked.
Hero snow here we come. Hope it does not flood too bad.

Saturday could be hero, but Sunday not looking that way. I'd bring a ski with sharp edges for Sunday. Could be some dust on crust at best.
Good news is that the cold and snow look to be coming back starting at the end of this weekend.

Not due to coverage but cuz you are thinking it will be bulletproof in there?

All of the above. I think coverage will take a major hit with all this warm-up and rain, so lot's of sections may not have enough snow. What is left will either be mank or ice.
But it was four epic days in there this past weekend. Rule number one of the Mid Atlantic: Carpe Skiem.
I think within 1-2 weeks, there is a good chance the base will build back up for some decent tree skiing, even if the rain does major damage.
Who ordered this Sochi weather?
Chip seems to think things will be ok at whitegrass:
Next Weekend? Will be kinda fun to brag on how much snow will cover the trails this weekend....it is just starting to settle this morning and it is already midweek...count on sore ski muscles to come!

Chip is notoriously optimistic; he'll hike through mud to ski snow at 4300 feet. And say winter is still here! And he is running a business, so he needs customers to show up. (I trust their reports of current conditions.)
But it obviously won't be that bad this weekend for Whitegrass. They 1) have the snowfarm and 2) can ski most of their stuff with 9-12+" less base than at Timberline.
We'll see. But things were already getting scratchy in high traffic spots in Cherry Bowl by the end of the day yesterday.
eh, I'll be there with my family this weekend so I probably wouldn't be able to spend much time in the trees regardless. Looking forward to the next shot of cold and snow.
stop thinking about it so much... just ski! :)

Can't ski in my backyard, so I can only talk today!
Good news is that rain now appears to be in a narrow time window. Hopefully no T-storms hit T-Line.
Skied in some rain squalls yesterday at TL, not too bad, but was sticky in some spots. Definitely seeing some snow loss in the valley with the rain, wind and warmer temps. TL skiing today, however, was excellent!

Settled natural base is down to 7" this AM, with some more rain (hopefully not much) to come. Down 17" from the peak. But trails should be fine and with some more cold temps/snow, the trees will rebound.
Trees to skiers right of Almost Heaven were OK Sat and Sun PM. Didn't bother checking out the big boy glades.
A large chunk (well, those still there) of the GTG was skiing Pearly Glades on Sunday afternoon. Would not dare venture into the trees today as we got a couple inches overnight. It will be camoflaging, but not covering, all the crud on the ground.

No need for that, a one-way ticket at canaan is all you need to ski the goods at 4300' on weiss knob. And there is feet of snow up there in that north/northeast facing bowl nicknamed the 'national nordic'..... with trails and glades galore in the spruce and birches it's a whole nother world you don't get to ski in around here much :) Usually things are undersold on the wg website for conditions so people will be pleasantly surprised. This coming weekend should be really good with the fresh snow on base and cold temps all week with a chance of more snow.
One of my favorite tricks. Chaga speaks truth. A single ride for me at Canaan is now free, and I'm over 70. For you young guys I believe its $6. To learn your way around this paradise check with Chip and the gang at Whitegrass.
