Curious about folks thoughts on easy fly in/out location for a 3 or 4 night visit week of 17th. also would like to stay somewhere we wouldn't need a car but could get around for fun times and I want travel day on either end to be fairly easy. I know not asking for much :). We did crested butte a while back and it was great. Got off plane, got on a bus which made a stop at local liquor store and we were on mountain in 30-40 mins or so. They had a continuous shuttle service that ran to town and our location was pretty much ski in and out. Thinking about it again, but may want to branch out. Also looking to see if I can find a package deal somewhere.
Thanks!
A lot of places will work. Many folks like to go to Utah for proximity to gateway airport and good snow, such as LCC and BCC areas, and Park City. You found a good situation at CB, similar could be Steamboat, Jackson Hole, Sun Valley, Aspen, Vail/Beaver Creek because these all have regional airports close by, but usually more costly flights than direct into Denver or SLC. You also seemed to have no problem with altitude at CB during a fairly short term visit. The one thing I caution some folks about is to think carefully about quick 3 or 4 day visits to really high resorts such as Breckenridge, Copper, Keystone, CB, etc. because by the time some folks are fully adjusted to altitude the visit is over.
For a short trip, there are a lot of advantages to going somewhere that you enjoy and don't have to spend time figuring out logistics. As for SLC options, Snowbird sometimes has specials but March is a bit early for those. Park City provides a ski town, but if you like CB then might not be the best choice in terms of terrain.
I ended up at mammoth mostly because of dwindling frequent flier miles and available flights. Was trying to keep costs down and the ability to use frequent flier and a pretty nice room and lift ticket package sealed the deal. Never been there so we will have to find our way around, but It seems to be one of the top late season destinations. We are in the inn so right on the mountain slope side, so should be nice. Mountain does look huge!
