The powder chaser must cultivate a Zen mind. Go without expectations, just go. Let the mountain and the snow speak to you as they will if you have an open mind. 2/27 at Kirkwood was a day that lived up to every expectation. Today, 2/28 at Sierra, was hyped to the sky by every forecaster but fell short. It was a very decent day, just not the equal of yesterday. I chose Sierra after seeing the 2"+ per hour falling in S Lake Tahoe at 7 AM. Echo pass enroute to sierra is 1000 ft lower than Carson pass enroute to Kirkwood and chain restrictions were on. Before I arrived the snow stopped, the sun came out, the temp. rose with elevation to 38 and the 4-6" that fell last night began to bake. I went looking for untracked powder in the trees, nothing too rowdy just nice moderate angle treed slopes. They exist but are full of rocks, big as houses and all sizes on down. Many reveal themselves only by the grinding noises as you ski over them. There were some short good lines but most of those were filled with young side slipping snowboarders, who made up about half the crowd. I'd say they need at least 3 feet more snow to make decent long tree runs. As it baked into Elmer's glue I called it a day. As I enjoyed a post lunch brew, the sky darkened and it began to dump snow again. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Remember - Zen.
same here in Park City - we were supposed to have a big dump tonight/tomorrow - i saved myself today so i could ski with power tomorrow but it looks like a miss - nice 5 inch dusting but no big dump. i was prep'ing the"big boards" but i'll put those away.
hey i will be in tahoe mar 13-18

Anyone chasing pow in the DC area?? What are our weather friends saying for Sunday Night!!! Where will the goods be on Monday??
I'm headed to Blue Knob for Monday and maybe Tuesday morning
7 Springs Sunday-Monday, hoping for the best, as of now its looking decent.
Maybe midweek at TL or CV depending on how things look Monday evening (snow-wise and work-wise)
Not only do you have to chase the storm, you need to be willing to skiing in it when its raging. I got to see a nice little video of Tucker and Brent skiing WL during the Prez. Day storm. In the video, you can tell the storm is raging and then you hear the crackling of the radio and they say they're shutting down the lifts due to the wind. Time to drop in.....................
I'll be chasing the pow about 200 yards out the front door.
I may have jinxed meself and Jimmy and Mrs. Jimmy, but work is closed tomorrow, so nothing much lost fer me I guess. May have to elbow Andy/Mr. Fish out of the way for the fresh pow.
