I appologize as i dont belive i ever did a follow up but needless to say my first trip out west was great! We also checked out powder mtn which had some awesome hidden freshies a week after the storm!!! (even tho im a boarder its great)
My next adventure is a trip to snowmass for my 21st birthday, ive been saving up for this and am looking for any tips/tricks/advice/hiddenstashes for a fellow Mid atlantic native! thanks alot everyone i love reading the forums, esp posts abot laurel mountain as i live in Acme PA. Good luck to everyone this season!
Heath, you have good taste in ski areas. Glad you enjoyed Snowbasin.
I went to Aspen last winter. Here is a lengthy trip report including a section on Snowmass: http://www.epicski.com/a/colorado-road-trip-recap Just about anyone can enjoy Longshot, a hike-to intermediate run at Snowmass that is fun, scenic, and as the name implies - really long.
Also, if you are a good, strong skier/boarder I would highly recommend you reserve a day to go visit nearby Aspen Highlands ski area and ride their free snowcat to Highland Bowl. It is an awesome sidecountry experience featuring a mountainside of huge, steep lines.
Here are pictorials of the three major Aspen ski areas:
