We have booked a trip to ski TL and CV from Dec 24th to 28th. Now that the weather looks so iffy, I am trying to figure out what to expect regarding the conditions. Any ideas? I am also worried about road conditions from dc area to canaan Xmas eve. Will it be so bad that I should consider cancel the trip and go during New Years instead?

WL and Sally were open from the top this past weekend and had great cover/snow (pre-rain.)

It appears they could have pushed the snow piles out on Dew Drop and opened it. Not sure what they will do.

Only one snowmaking pile at the top of Off The Wall. So unless a freak 2 foot snow happens, it won't be open this weekend.

No other obvious snowmaking activity was going on.

I would guess they were saving the snow on dew drop for the Xmas crowd. I hope so, for the sake of the OP. Skicat, you can definitely have a good day skiing on just white lightening and dew drop, although I imagine a few days of that would not be the most exciting skiing in the world. Probably best to mentally prepare yourself for the possibility of a day or two of off -ski activity. I was in your situation years ago and we ended up mountain biking and hiking in addition to skiing. Disappointing but that is always a possibility over Xmas time in the mid Atlantic. Of course you could end up with a foot of fresh snow the day after Xmas, in which case you will be doing powder laps on WL while I jealously read about it from New Orleans.

Yeah I read about the trail opening posts. Looks like I should still go then. I am most worried about the rain, which will be the most dissapointing thing ever since skiing in rain is really not fun. But I guess at this point I can only prepare myself and think positively. At least 3 out of 5 days are not forecasted to be raining right now.

The dew was actually opened today, and as tucker's press agent, I am reporting the 'surface conditions' to be soft corn. ski'd up sally and did the dew with the dogs after hours and it was nice

Base on Sally, White Lightening and Dew Drop are deep. Ski conditions have been great.  Personally, I've had some great days skiing in the rain.  Plus, if you want to get the days in the Mid Atlantic you have to deal with all kinds of horific conditions.  Acuweather and the like have done more to kill ski, bike, fishing ect days than any other single source.  Isn't that why we all buy all that Gore Tex stuff?

We skied canaan today. They have two runs open top to bottom. Surface was quite hard and icy but we still had fun. I am hoping for some good grooming tonight so tomorrow can be better. Fingers crossed!
