Missed Snowy Laua so I came in today (Tuesday) early afternoon. 1st run down Twister was like boiler plate. Did the cycle all except Off the Wall, Thunderstruck was the nicest. By late afternoon the snow had softened up and the boiler plate went away. Maybe 15 other skiers here today, makes their decision to close early seem sensible from a business standpoint.

As of today, the SS home page still says "Open until April 5th" in big bold print.

Sorry for any confusion my post may have created. "T'Line 3/17 to Close" should have probably been "TR- T"line 3/17 thru Closing Date".

I believe both Drop and OTW were closed this past weekend.  Did they reopen once the base softened up?

Sorry, don't know.  I decided to be allergic to rain on Saturday.

The drop was bump less who knows why they have insisted on grooming that trail all year. On Saturday OTW softened and was best I've seen it all year. Sunday it froze and was still closed when I left at 1PM.

Charlie - even though terrible weather last weekend they had decent amount of people in valley. With proper promotions no reason last two weeks couldn't be worth opening. SS seems to think so. CV seems to think so.  But regardless extrapolating what happens on Tuesday at Tline to what one would expect on a weekend is not a good predictor. From what I understand CV is planning on staying open to end of March.  So if you are a Tline homeowner or renter that is a good alternative to finish out the year with some skiing.

Spring bumps on The Drop has been one of the highlights at Timberline over the past decade.

Without terrain features on The Drop and Off The Wall (and Thunder lift line bumps when enough snow), Timberline's *trails* are pretty meh and don't have much challenge. Trees on the other hand...

Tom, good to know about Canaan Valley's plans for the end of March. Happy Hour there instead of Timbers.

Charlie, I can see if Timberline only opens Fri-Mon after Snowy Luau weekend. (And maybe open for Powder Daize like Plattekill.) But they are slowly but surely losing a lot of their paying customer base.

Due to weird job situation, I've skied a lot of other areas this past winter and I haven't really missed skiing at Timberline. (I have missed the comraderie of the locals/regulars.)

I don't understand grooming The Drop either; who makes that call, patrol, mountan ops or someone in management? Off the Wall was amazing on Monday; conditions were great all over the mountain. Hero snow not that crappy sugary stuff. Thunderdraft is about done, same for the upper glades. Skiing this week should be nothing but great if you like warm, sping condtions.

@Charlie I AM JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jimmy - definitely not Ski Patrol.  I was talking to a member last weekend discussing some of the more questionable decisions about tending the terrain and they have made numerous suggestions that have gone unheard.  One thing is clear, who ever is making the decisions knows nothing about skiing.  OTW has basically been a glacier all winter and should have been groomed down and allowed to form as a regular bump run without icy whales in the steeps.  Instead no one has skied it or at least skied and enjoyed it until the last week of the season when it finally softened.  The Drop which has always been  a spring favorite bump run  has been groomed daily (White Lightening East (or West?)).  So they basically lost their two best expert trail for most of the season. Furthermore, last year they let part of Almost Heaven bump up and Timberline actually had an intermediate bump run where people could learn to ski bumps. The only consistent bump skiing has been on Thunderdraft which is sad.  Skiers love bump runs, yet Timberline barely has any.  How insane is that.  Whoever is making those decisions should hang out on the side of Exhibition (or whatever the bump run is called at Whitetail) and watch how many people ski that run. Thank god they can't mess up the trees.  Tline has more varied tree runs than bump runs which is ridiculous.

TomH> I will reiterate my earlier reply, my post should have been titled "TR- T'Line 3/17 to closing date".  I intend to ski here all week until closing on Sunday. I did not mean to imply that Timberline was closing during the weekdays. Having said that,  I didn't ski here today but went to Snowshoe with 3 co-workers for an Adaptive Ski clinic. We cliniced in the AM  then skied 1/2 day in the PM and the conditions were great. Will be back at T'Line tomorrow for the rest of the season.

Every statement about tline starts with they should do........but they did ........instead.  It is unfortunate that a bunch of non-skiing clowns own/operate the mountain.  I have heard the same complaints for 25+ years and the place has done little to improve the product and experience.  As much as I dislike WT/Liberty they are well run operations and value customer opinion.  STOP GROOMING THE DROP; it will save you money!

Tom H ”“ Tline wrecked the cherry bowl many years ago.  Don’t underestimate management’s ability to mess up the tree skiing.

They groom it because #1, the groomers are definitely not skiers and don't know the difference, and #2 nobody tells them different or what to groom or how to groom or checks their work.

OTW was a corn-fest on monday @ 60 degrees!

TR- 3/19 Day 3 of 6. Got to T'Line about 9:30 am, frozen groomed granular. Softened up around 11:30 am to sugar snow. No to low crowd. Great afternoon, skied mostly blues because I was cooked from all day at Snowshoe yesterday.  Did notice that Off the Wall was closed today, not sure about the The Drop. Great spring conditions, temps in the mid 40's.
