Not sure if this link will work. It just popped up on their Instagram. Looks like it'll be a new 5 acre section that drops down between Upper Shays to Cupp right above the mid station. Could be fun. Dropping down from Lower Shays could be much steeper.
Just saw that on their FB page. More is better!
oh snap that is already a busy glade, hope they don't mess it up and ski it off immediately. jeesh.
I read that they are also converting Choker back to a black trail and removing the park features.
Was Choker black? it seems more blu-ish to me. And I wonder where is that new green trail that they showed earlier this summer?

I haven't skied snowshoe as much as some other places, but I had always heard patrol was pretty strict about pulling tickets for any unauthorized ventures into the woods. I guess that has kept me from poking around too much there. Sounds like I was missing out on at least one place.
Anyway, in general I think the emphasis on marked glades in the Mid-Atlantic ski region is a good thing. But I see your point. The best powder turns I have ever had at Wintergreen occurred before their one small "glade" was actually marked as such. Gotta get the fresh snow fast around these parts, that's for sure.

According to a map from 2010 it was 'black" but I tend to agree with you on the blu-ish.
I also read that they are moving that other park (Progression Park) to the Yew Pine trail and renaming that that Evolution Park. I assume where Progression Park was (2014 - 15) will be renamed (maybe Skidaway from an 08 Map) and become a green trail again. Maybe this all ties in with that new green trail that cuts across to Ballhooter.

Or lucky. Best powder I have ever seen around here was at Wisp on presidents weekend after a freak squall around 4 pm that sent most people running. But that was likely my reward for putting up with the well below 0 temps.
I'm trying to remember where these glades would be. I remember thinking that the area around some of the mountain bike trails would be a blast to explore, are they just marking and clearing out a bit more of that? Also it is the middle of September hopefully Snowshoe will post a 15/16 trail map soon.

You're probably right. I kind of liked Yew Pine, it was nice and wide and rolling for my kids, so many of the greens at SS are tight and crowded, it was a nice place to get a little elbow room. Maybe they're thinnking that pushing the park all the way over there will take some pressure off Powder Monkey lift? It won't be easy for a snowboarder to get from the bottom of Yew Pine over to the Powder Monkey lift as the trails are now.
