12 years of start dates. Interesting. Pretty much even across

Nov openings 3

Dec Early 3

Dec Mid 4

Dec Late 2 might as add this year for 3

for Liberty roundtop and Whitetail. I can  go back another 8 years.

I guess we had it good the last two years. That's 2 out of the 3 Nov openings in the last 12 years?

That's comforting I suppose... Unless the trend goes later and later...

Snow making improvements have made it possible for resorts to get a couple runs open in less than a week or cool temps.  That said, I think it is "cheating" to blast for three days, open for two, then have to close for three or four more weeks and call that fluke of a weekend "opening day"..  It should only count as opening day if they have dufficient base to STAY open consistantly..  So those older Dec opening dates were very likely "true" opening dates where these October and early November ones are merely a publicity stunt..

Well, for 7S I can confirm that as far as I personally remember, I do not recall any times that they closed after opening.  They may have and I just dont remember.  Now, here's the thing when 7S opens, they quite often are only opening limited terrain.  As in 5-10% of their slopes/trails.  They dont have much there to begin with though.

7S really played this season wrong so far. When they had the opportunity to make snow they did it very limited and on the limited areas they actually blew snow for whatever reason they didnt seem to have all the guns or portables working on it like they would when they are really trying to open.  It was almost like it was just a show.   Then just recently they had the opportunity but got spooked by the weather forecast for this weekend and opted not to make snow.  They could have actually opened this weekend if they wanted to however it would have been very ugly.  BUT, here's the important part - they could have guaranteed being opened by xmas and at this point, I have serious doubts they will be able to.  That's a horrible financial loss for them...
