My family has had a trip to Snowshoe planned for a while.  We leave on January 8th.  The weather where we live has been awful (aka. warm) and it appers Snowshoe isn't doing well either.  We have been wondering whether we should drive 6 hours to go at all.  What do you guys think?  Is is worth the drive?  Are the conditions suitable for my daughter who skis blues but not yet blacks?  Thanks for your input, my family and I really apprieciate it.

Jan 8th is nearly 3 weeks away.  A lot can change; I would hold off for at least another week until making any determination.

Blues where?  Trail ratings are specific to a given ski area.  A blue at Massanutten is not the same as a blue at Blue Knob or Snowshoe.

Snowshoe is working hard to get Silver Creek open.  That can be the better area for younger kids and cautious intermediates in general because it never gets as crowded as the main green/blue trails.

If there are cold temps starting around Jan. 1, Snowshoe will have no trouble getting more terrain open by Jan. 8.  They can blow a lot of snow in 3-4 nights.  Hopefully there will be at least one snowstorm too.

Breck, it appears not much is going to change from now until year end.  As stated above, Jan 8th is way out and a lot can change. One thing I can say, if it's cold, they can lay down some serious snow.

I'd hold off on any decision.  You should look at your cancellation policy.  That is a HUGE topic down here.  Snowshoe has the most open trails now and I don't see any other places passing them up by Jan 8th.

I woulndt waste the money unless you see more open slopes. Look at the map and make sure any new openings arent 50 foot access trails. As others said, we have some time between now and then. When must know by?

Good news is you'll likely have the place to yourself, so you can make the most of whatever they have open.  It doesn't take much for the young ones to have fun.

Is it going to be any better a week from today (Dec 26)? That week is when we have reservations, and it's not too late to pull the plug. Have to admit right now the weather forecast doesn't look too promising, unfortunately...

Just spoke with them... they have a "relaxed cancellation policy" so it only cost me $10 to cancel... hated to do it but will use the money to come in February instead...

Hey, thanks for all your suggestions.  I was just looking at the Snowshoe weather report and it does not look like it will get much better, but they do have some beginner slopes open, so I guess I'll just keep an eye on the weather.  Either way, thanks.
