The Allegheny County owned ski area in the eastern Pittsburgh suburbs will open for a night session today at 3:30 pm and plan tp stay open through the week. This is the first time in my memory that the 180 vertical foot ski area beat the larger resorts on the Laurel Ridge to the east. Bravo Boyce Park!

Go Boyce!  Congrats on beating the big boys AND under harder circumstances due to the temps being 5-7 degrees warmer!  That's pretty sad that Boyce could open before 7S and HV.  That first wave of snowmaking whereas 7S lost every bit of snow really burned them so, they skipped the opportunity a couple weeks ago and this time around limited their snowmaking to ever more limited terrain.

I didn't think anybody was harder on the Nutting regime than me on this forum, but I place a very distant second to Sincraft.  :-)

SIncraft - what opportunity are you talking about?  I don't know where you live but there have been mimimal opportunities to make snow with this weather pattern. I think they have done the best they could with the weather we have. It doesn't take much snow to open a 180' mole hill. Rain is forcast for the next 10+/- days. What do you expect them to do?  I guess the weather is Nutting's fault for you 'Burgher's. They made an amazing amount of snow recently at HV only to see all of that $$$ melt away.

I have a warm spot in my heart for Boyce Park.  Skied there nights in the late 60s when in grad school in Pittsburgh.

I agree SnowSmith. I am one of Nutting's biggest critics on this forum. But there is absolutely nothing he or his assembled teams at 7S or HV can do about this weather. There is plenty of legitimate criticism to be thrown at him for other aspects of his operations, but he can’t be blamed for 70 degrees and rain at the end of  December
