If I wanted to go somewhere tomorrow night and plan on staying there for the weekend so that I can get from lodging to slopes without needing a car, where would I go?

Seven Springs.

Reason I sold SS (of many) = during a big snow - you can't get there from here! LOL

I think many have slopeside rentals.  I can speak for 7S, HV, Wisp, and SS.

I rarely use my car in Snowshoe.  Park it on Friday and drive home on Sunday.

I think Wisp has the least properties that are ski/walk to slopes..lodging at bottom and some housing on the hill.  7S has similar but base lodging is larger and more on-hill properties, some off-hill condo/th complexes may have shuttle but I don't know.  SS has about 2,000 beds on the mountain that are ski/walk/shuttle access to slopes&village plus options at the bottom with shuttle service to top from Snowshoe Inn.

I was looking at this lodging sale that Snowshoe was having: there are studios in Expedition Station for $316 for two nights.  Since I have a season pass at Snowshoe, that might make the most sense.  I'm now wondering if the conditions will be such that I even want to be outside skiing though....

Is there a shuttle from that Inn?  I was wondering about that.  Is is only for guests staying there?

I would not fart around with the shuttle with all this snow.  Ex Station is slopeside and 316 is a decent price for 2 nights.

Pretty sure the Inn is full.

Watch the cutoff gradients on the weather models for the storm.  Laurel Highlands could get skunked in terms of snowfall amounts compared to Wisp, and compared to SS, etc.  The gradient is that sharp.  Perhaps Fishnski could help out with some model hugger wisdom here.

I agree that's a great price.  You don't have to be staying at the Inn to use the shuttle.  A friend of mine has a house a couple miles from the Inn and sometimes uses that shuttle when he thinks the apres bar tab will run too high.

The Inn is indeed full (and doesn't look so great) but more for future reference, I have stayed at the Elk River Inn occasionally and my 2wd car sometimes doesn't cut it getting up the mountain so could maybe take advantage of it.

I agree, 7S & HV might be the only resorts making snow this weekend LOL.  Consider it karma from the ski gods.

Canaan Valley Lodge runs a shuttle to the CV State Park ski area only.  Timberline has some slope side rentals.  Massanutten, Wintergreen and Bryce have many rentals, many slope side or within walking distance.

Wintergreen has some slopeside, right? They should get a good dump in this system if I'm not wrong.

Close to pulling the trigger on Rimfire for 3-4 nights.  How risky to leave DC early tomorrow morning?  When do we think snow will start in WV?

Local wxman, and other's I've checked with, has been reporting snow will start at SS & CV around 5pm so I think you'll be fine leaving DC early morning.

Update: Weather Underground estimates a 2pm start.

Timberline actually has a fairly new slopeside motel that is 30 yards from the base of the lift.

Hoya - Not being smart here - what's early to you?  We are leaving Pgh area around 4 AM so we can ski all day Fri and avoid any potential forecast hick ups ..... and any crowds.

I'm a BIG fan of Friday skiing.  Many mid week guests are checking out Fri AM and the weekenders usually show up later on Friday.   Lift lines are nil and slopes are mostly wide open.  I've done it for years and highly recommend it if your schedule allows.

Early is however early is needed to get out before snow...but looking at Accuweather...that might be earlier that I'm in the mood for.  Elk River Inn has rooms tonight I think which might be better option.

The forecasts I'm looking at are trending later.  Snow should continue through most of Saturday ending Saturday night so Saturdeay evening and Sunday morning would be the best times to ski.

I have the vehicle to get from  a nearby BnB up the mountain if the resort road is even close to plowed.  Problem is that I also have family that wants to play in the snow here at home an an employer that requires that I work tomorrow hahahaha.

This place is located right where the actual access road to Beech Moutain begins, in the shadow of the chains or AWD required sign.  Just a few munites up some wicked switchbacks to the base lodge but most of the stuck cars would be below you Saturday if you stay here Friday night

My weather guy is predicting 8 - 16 inches. Similar forcast from NWS for the Laurels. Not as substantial as WV but not too shabby:

Dont forget Liberty though small in vertical, they opened the Highland Lodge and they might be the easiest to access. And are expected to be in 12-18 inch range. Restaurants on site too.
